Ben Shapiro @benshapiro We're now #1 overall on iTunes, too. On the way, we knocked off, among others, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj, Eminem, and Taylor Swift.

Of course it's only #1 on iTunes Says it all really. Well you got to admire a song that says literally make us #1 on Billboard too - that's gangsta shit Nicki, take some notes, I just did this for fun All my people download this, let's get a Billboard number one

This works as cringe comedy but I don't think Ben has the self awareness for that and probably thinks he's cool.
Would admittedly be fun trolling if it actually got to no. 1 though.

Alright, ignoring the lyrics of the song for fear of getting banned, let's just tackle the music.
This MacDonald guy can make a pretty catchy tune and beat - nothing spectacular, but it's a lot more listenable than most rap. It goes on waaaaay too long (this should be half its length), but it's alright for what it is.
That Shapiro segment, though... it's just sad. The guy has no rhythm and uses the same sniveling monotone he has on his show. There's no emotion or varying degrees of anger here.
Best part of the video is Shapiro appearing on all the televisions like some maniacal supervillain.
Edit: This is waaaay better than "Rich Men North of Richmond" - at least this one has the guts to go all-in

This song actually raises an interesting question about the politics of the charts though really - ie can a song be downloaded /streamed enough to compensate for lack of airplay and if so can the "industry" keep a song out of #1 anyway? That didn't happen to Rich Men North of Richmond which had Country music airplay but will kill this or strangle it out of several chart slots I suppose ...... This of course came up famously in the UK in 1977 with - an expressly political song - one of the GOAT Rock songs ever imo - being "surpressed" by the government (?): " Despite this, the song reached number two in the singles chart - the only time in chart history a track was listed with a blank title to avoid offence. The band was held off the top spot by Rod Stewart, but there were rumours the chart had been manipulated to prevent God Save The Queen from reaching number one.

Gotta admit: when I first saw this song existed, I thought to myself, "how long before pacinoyes posts about it?"

Gotta admit: when I first saw this song existed, I thought to myself, " how long before pacinoyes posts about it?" Me too tbh and I say that as a member of his amazing .bot posting team - dude is as predictable as chuck liking a puppy post ammiright mods? Come on, you know it, like this post fellas ........actually everyone on here thinks about pacinoyes way too much tbh.....people are like "Oh did pacinoyes review Barbie yet? I need to read that!!!" Do you really though? Um........ .......... Is pacinoyes the most fun, funniest, wittiest, most entertaining, most well-rounded in his takes on film history criticism (and Pop music - give or take the boards big brains - javi, mattsby, themoviesinner who are all BEASTS btw) and obviously is pacinoyes the most humble poster in MAR history?
Best arguer? Most fascinating? Most enigmatic? Most loved? Most hated? How many people have him blocked?
How close has he actually come to being banned?
Discuss........
Side note: Back on topic:
Some possible names for an album title if Shapiro drops a whole album I mean:
Crapmatic
The Redprint
My Beautiful Dork Twisted Fantasy

I thought of comparing the prospect of this getting to no. 1 to God Save the Queen in my first post but just.......no. Not the same thing in terms of music, message, or what it represents.

He changed his twitter bio to "America's Number 1 Rapper". This is admittedly getting funny as a PR stunt Charts are stupid so I'm in favor of anything to make a joke out of them.

Well the cleverness (for lack of a better word) of this troll job is not merely that charts are stupid but the culture of success - "celebrating wealth" - is itself corrupt too (ie like that way we talked about earlier in the Sex Pistols - legitimate example)........... the US Billboard charts can quite easily keep a song down without airplay so it's not merely mechanism mocking but institutional mocking too: - which is also much like celebrations of (supposed) artistry can similarly be trolled (The Tony Awards for example - a flat out out scam for about 30 years - 30 ffs - and no one cares) This is just a political troll job but it does speak to something more interesting: why some music - always THE dominant music - trolls itself - ie Drake's entire artistic worth is based on charts

Of course it's only #1 on iTunes Says it all really. Way to jinx this whole thing ............also "first #1 hit" is drolly funny.........Digital Song isn't Pop Number 1 but I didn't say that because America put Blame It On The Rain at Number 1 for 2 weeks ffs.......... chart data @chartdataBen Shapiro is currently pacing to debut at #1 on next week's Billboard Digital Song Sales chart with "FACTS" with Tom MacDonald. It would mark his first #1 hit.

Ah, so Norman Bates is expanding his portfolio now? His rendition of WAP really was one for the record books, so I understand. The WAP thing was such a missed opportunity. Could have been hilarious but he ruined it by saying "p word" and other minced oaths and by intoning and stuff to actually try to make it funny. Some dork doing a complete monotone reading of the lyrics would have been the best, like that guy who read the wikipedia "cock and ball torture" article on Youtube.

As embarrassing and unserious as Tom MacDonald is, Bens "Dog its a Yamaka, Homie No cap" bar is kind of insane

Billboard estimates it may hit #3 on the Pop 100 chart at best with factoring in airplay and streaming. The Replacements "I'll Be You" got to number 51 btw.......... : He’s likely to get a No. 1 on Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart, anyway, as “Facts” has held the lead on iTunes essentially since its Jan. 26 release date, even amidst the Nicki/Megan beefing. The song’s streaming numbers are relatively small compared to “Hiss” and “Lovin on Me,” though, and it has no real radio support, so to even challenge for No. 1 it will still have to post a pretty stratospheric sales number in its debut week.www.billboard.com/music/chart-beat/nicki-minaj-hiss-hot-100-megan-thee-stallion-ben-shapiro-1235594333/
