I had Oppenheimer for Adapted but I think maybe Gerwig’s director snub will rally people to award her here.
Both lead actor races are close but I’m going with my predicted SAG winners for now.

Why are so many predicting Oppenheimer will lose screenplay, it's has all the trademarks of an Oscar winning screenplay (e.g. dialogue driven)? Please don't say Critics Choice.

Mainly because I feel like it's their way to give Greta her flowers, especially in the wake of this ridiculous backlash. Nolan's already getting Director and Picture, and while last year they didn't spread the love, that's an anomaly in recent years.

I am going with American Fiction, because it is the Toronto winner and won at Critics Choice. Plus, the Academy likes to honor satires. Oppy did not win the Globe or CCA. Screenplays are going to be hard to predict because the WGA is holding their awards in April. Barbie could very well win Adapted too. I have Oppy third.

Picture and screenplay are the most popular combos in this preferential ballot system. I know, but looking at the landscape of this particular season where Barbenheimer discourse dominated the year, and with Gerwig missing Director and unlikely to win Picture, Screenplay (which she was the presumed favourite in when it was running in Original) is a reasonable place where voters can have their cake and eat it, too. But look, I am not interested in debating stats or percentages or anything like that. I'm going off gut feeling.

However, if Oppy dominates the Guilds like with Everything or Birdman, I think smart money would be on Oppy for screenplay. I have American Fiction as my #1 at the moment.

Yeah you mentioned TIFF award, which doesn't equal to screenplay winner. You mentioned Globes which went to Anatomy of a Fall, which is also nothing because it's an original screenplay. But also all are not academy bodies, where let's look at the academy, where Barbie underperformed overall, twitter may be raging over the snubs, but does the academy care? The success of Green Book and Bohemian Rhapsody says, no.

The success of Green Book and Bohemian Rhapsody says, no. 2022 - The Fabelmans (No Oscar wins) 2021 - Belfast (Original Screenplay) 2020 - Nomadland (Picture, Director, Actress) 2019 - Jojo Rabbit (Adapted Screenplay) 2018 - Green Book (Picture, Supporting Actor, Original Screenplay) 2017 - Three Billboards (Actress, Supporting Actor) 2016 - La La Land (6 Oscar wins for Director, Actress, Score, Song, Cinematography, Production Design) 2015 - Room (Actress) 2014 - Imitation Game (Adapted Screenplay) 2013 - 12 Years A Slave (Picture, Adapted Screenplay, Supporting Actress) 2012 - Silver Linings Playbook (Actress) 2010 - The King's Speech (Picture, Director, Actor, Original Screenplay) 2009 - Precious (Supporting Actress, Adapted Screenplay) 2008 - Slumdog Millionaire (Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, Editing, Sound Mixing, Song, Score)
Out of the 14 People's Choice winners to score a Best Picture nomination, The Fabelmans is the only one to go home empty-handed. If there's a category ripe for American Fiction to fulfill the "at least one win" quota, it is Adapted Screenplay.
I am not guaranteeing a win, but I wouldn't rule out American Fiction as a potential winner here. Barbie and Oppy are strong contenders too.

Tip for those of you who are into betting. Paul Giamatti is currently 4\1 for winning best actor. Honestly I think that's good odds now but DO NOT bet now. Wait until the minute he wins SAG and then place the bet before they change the odds. I do this every year. Last year I did it with Jamie Lee Curtis right after SAG and the year before Troy Kotzur right after BAFTA. Alway at least double my money. My account started with 100 and it now up to 900.
If Paul doesn't win SAG and Lily does you can do the same with her but her odds are like 2/1.
