I'm really upset by Sterling K. Brown and America Ferrera. Those performances are adequate at best. I really can't stand coattail nominations.
Please, Acting Branch - see more films.

HAPPY: - Napoleon for Production Design, Costume Design & VFX (mediocre movie but the techs are impeccable, plus I'm extra happy for Janty Yates being back here) - Godzilla Minus One for VFX (sight unseen) - Perfect Days for International Film (sight unseen) - John Williams ('cause he's the GOAT) - Dead Reckoning for VFX & Sound (the franchise deserved to finally get some Oscar recognition) - Ellen Mirojnick (fucking finally!) UPSET: - America "It's literally impossible to be a woman" Ferrera But I'm most upset about a couple of misses, mainly Joe Hisaishi for Score

Happy for all the Anatomy of a Fall love. Also happy for Maestro, if for no other reason than the fact that it makes this board quiver.
I'm not really upset about anything because even the films or people that missed were kind of seen coming. Like, Payne probably should've been nominated, but Triet got in instead and I'm happy about that.

John Williams ('cause he's the GOAT) I know people are annoyed with him and his roped off Original Score parking spot but I can't believe he's gotten within spitting distance of Walt Disney. 5 nominations away from tying it up. If he lives to 100... It also really has to be said that this man just broke HIS OWN RECORD for the oldest Oscar nominee in history.

Happy- So many nods for The Holdovers Emily Blunt finally getting one The Teacher's Lounge getting a foreign film nod May December for screenplay Godzilla for FX Napoleon getting so many techs
Upset Poor Things getting all of those nods or even existing in the first place
Was going to say Cooper's acting nod for Maestro but whatever he was doing in that movie getting an Oscar nomination is more funny than anything else so I'm not really upset.

Happy 1. Jonathan Glazer as Best Director nominee. Winslet's Extras scene continues to be the gift that keeps on giving. 2. Wright getting in over Leonardo DiMugrio. Mug less. 3. Ruffalo sneaking in there. Glad it was him over Dafoe. 4. May December screenplay nom. Small gift, but we'll take it. 5. BIG JOHNNY WILLIAMS! Who cares about the movie, just care about the man. 6. I'm glad Diane Warren is nominated so we get to see her loser face again. Maybe she should just stay home. 7. GODZILLA! 8. Jack Fisk back at the show for somehow only the third time. 9. No Saltburn.
Not So Happy *cracks knuckles*
1. I'm sad Robbie Robertson isn't here to enjoy his nom. 2. Maestro in Best Picture. 3. Maestro in Best Actor. 4. Maestro in Best Screenplay. 5. Maestro in Best Hair/Makeup. 6. Yellow missing in Live Action Short. 7. That sack of shit Wes Anderson self-parody in Live Action Short. 8. No fucking Beyond Utopia?? 9. American Fiction in screenplay. 10. Danielle Brooks 11. America Ferrera 12. Speaking of Saltburn, I do kind of wish Elordi had got in. 13. Annette Bening. 14. Colman Domingo. Harvey Weinstein is in jail, guys. Why is this kind of shit still getting nominated for Oscars? 15. Justine Triet getting the token woman spot over Greta. Fucking criminal. 16. American Fiction in Best Picture. 17. Payne missing Director just because it could have kept the illusion of a race alive for longer.

Feel bad for Charles Melton. It's not easy for Asian would-be leading men to succeed in Hollywood and get on the A-list, and getting the nomination could have really made his odds of doing it a lot more secure. Now he could face a similar fate to John Lone, Jason Scott Lee etc. Even Henry Golding, who would be pushed hard by Hollywood in that Brad Pitt/George Clooney bracket if he were white, seems to be struggling somewhat since Crazy Rich Asians.

I do hope that he's caught the eye of some auteurs who will use him down the line, because the guy's got charisma.

No nominations for May December other than Screenplay goes without saying (Like... Acting Branch, what exactly are you looking for? lol), so I'll just jump to my next gripe.
I'm not surprised by it, but... not a single nomination for All of Us Strangers has to boil down to not enough voters seeing the film. There is no way you watch it and not feel completely gutted by Andrew Scott, Claire Foy, and Jamie Bell. I was bawling.

But I will make damn sure the AMARAs make up for it (and my personal lineups).

Yeah, I hope Melton has a good team behind him who can maximise the acclaim he got out of this awards season. Steven Yeun should be the blueprint, imho. Yeun got a lot of major critics awards for Burning, but also missed the Oscar nomination. But his team found him a great follow-up project in Minari, and then he got the Oscar nomination. And his career is flying right now (to the point where he can be choosy enough to drop out of a Marvel film). If Melton plays his cards correctly, he can leverage this season the way Yeun did with Burning.

Also... Annette Bening.
You passed her over for 20th Century Women, The Seagull, and Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool... to nominate her for this shit?

I know Film Twitter loved him but the performance was just so understated, it's not the kind of showy thing the actor's branch usually goes for. Like, I have no idea what his Oscar clip even would have been. I know it was polarizing on here with a lot of people just thinking he was wooden. And to be honest he was although that was kind of the point so it was effective in the context of the movie.

* Really sad about huge star in the African American community (um,, is she though? ) Taraji P.Henson who has to deal with only having 12 Million and now she suffers the indignity of being a PoC being under-represented by The White Devil in America - how long do these millionairesses need to suffer! ...... Nah, just kidding ^ : * Glad Frances Fisher failed with her Origin witchcraft - I didn't see Origin but Riseborough was a once in a lifetime kind of thing - and a genuinely amazing peformance ....... * Glad Saltburn missed ......it's just a pretend movie, escalating oddness masquerading as drama.......I said this before Rose Glass may surpass Fennell as a director .......I mean not just for me, I mean that in general * Glad Past Lives is in Picture just because it deserves it - still my number 1 ftw That's all I got.....
