Norman Jewison directed twelve people in Oscar nominated performances. Rod Steiger, Cher, and Olympia Dukakis won. So in his honor, what are your three favorite performances that were nominated for an Oscar? It's strange not to see Sidney Poitier on the list for In the Heat of the Night.

Denzel in The Hurricane, easily. I'd take McQueen's astonishing swagger in The Thomas Crown Affair over the rest of these performances too. The definition of cool.

Poitier from In the Heat of the Night is the best performance in any film Jewison directed. He wasn't nominated for it, though.

Topol for me, followed by Dukakis. Adolph Caesar in A Soldier's Story is super underrated, though.

I don't know tbh - I mean Pacino is my favorite or one of my favorites along with Brando, Huppert so he'd my favorite but it almost seems disrespectful to vote - in a way - all of those are fine - Topol is very fine ......I said this in my Jewison thread - Jewison could REALLY cast down to the smallest roles.....the way he casts Strasberg and Sam Levene opposite Al - 2 acting legends in their way opposite this "new" one is really smart not that this board would know who Sam Levene was anyway....Philistines One of the things I like about Pacino is that is the first time besides Michael Corleone that he has to play an "intellectual" overtly (and Michael just went to college, big deal)......Pacino never graduated high school and amazingly plays lawyers great or can play intellect - politicians, Dr. Kevorkian or effete artists - less "aggressive" types.......I always likd that about And Justice For All .......there's a lot of "lawyer" stuff in it for an actor to play All 3 actors :

1. Denzel 2. Steiger 3. Pacino 4. Tilly 5. Cher 6. Arkin 7. Caesar 8. Bancroft 9. Gardenia 10. Topol 11. Dukakis 12. Frey
Not a bad one in the bunch. But a certain someone is sorely missed. Rhymes with Coitier.
