What a weird movie. I dug Anjelica Huston's look, but how on earth did she win an Oscar for that? Nicholson had some funny line readings. It had too many lulls in the rhythm and a ludicrous plot.

The math really did not add up with that one.

Weird movie for me - a lot of people I know hate it but I always found it funny and easy to watch.....basically it's like an earlier version on MAR of something like American Hustle or Maestro where you start to ask yourself "am I really that weird?" Something like a 7 / 10 - Nicholson has 3 of these sort of slightly postive films in this era that are sort of baffling in some way - this, Witchess of Eastwick, The Border - though I'm not sure why any of them "really" work - I've watched all of them multiple times which sort of leads me to ask myself "am I really that weird?" ...........um

Nicholson's performance is one of the worst ever. Huston was the only one who came out of that thing unscathed.

A testament to how awful the Oscar choices were that year on the whole, but I guess there was just something in the air as both Siskel & Ebert raved about it as well.

If David O. Russell existed in the '80s and huffed paint thinner for six months straight, this is the movie he would've made. Fuck Prizzi's Honor.

It's practically vanished from my mind but I remember enjoying it quite a bit, thinking that it was Huston's homage to the style of filmmaking of the industry's earlier days (when he thrived), finding Nicholson befuddling but amusing because of that, liking the whole ensemble...
