As I said elsewhere, this is a grand sweeping story that I feel wouldn't really work well in a single theatrical format. Something like what Kevin Costner's Horizon is promising to be would be the closest you could get to it without going to the full miniseries treatment.
I've really liked Sheridan's first three cinematic forays (and I do think Soldado is fine for what it is), and I've no doubt he can handle the material . . . but Sheridan's also come under (and justifiably so) for the way he's centered his stories, most notably in how Wind River has a white protagonist for no real reason except bankability, when that role could and should've been played by a Native actor. I hope that there's a bit more grace here and that he's able to take a risk and give someone a star-making opportunity.
