NY underground kings, but with still no new film from the Safdies in sight (there's an announced Safdie/Sandler project listed, no title or date yet tho - as of 01/14/24), i think i'm gonna rewatch their entire filmography this year to compensate for all the waiting which should be doable since there are only 5 films...
me, you know, idk i'm just kinda in... how shall i put it, ...in love? it certainly feels like it as i cant stop thinking about their fucking films! their fucking films speak exactly my language and they just fucking know how to touch me in all the right places, if that makes sense. now, i'm pretty horrible at analysing stuff, so i won't embarrass myself in trying to, but i was still wondering what do yall think of their fucking films. do you like them or not? do their fucking films speak to you, too, and you just completely get them like i do? do they have a certain impact in your every day life to some extent as well?
i'd rank their fuqkcing films as follows:
1. Heaven Knows What (2014) 20/10 2. Good Time (2017) 9.5/10 3. Uncut Gems (2019) 9/10 4. Go Get Some Rosemary aka Daddy Longlegs (2009) 8.5/10 5. The Pleasure of Being Robbed (2008) 8/10
how says you?
here sth to watch is a great scene with my man and Safdie regular, Buddy Duress. sadly no thumbnail here, it's his monologue/flashback scene in Good Time

FYII’ve loved what I’ve seen from them which is only Good Times and Uncut Gems. Hoping to check out some of their earlier films.

Have only seen Heaven Knows What, Good Time, and Uncut JAMS, and I think they just get better and better with each one. In a time where it has become 'cool' to deliberately produce scuzzy and cheap-looking movies made with tens of millions while looking like they were made for pennies, these guys are one of too few whose movies actually have that feeling of authenticity. And Buddy Duress has been an absolute gift to movies.
It's sad they seem to have broken up. As long as they both get to keep going I guess it's acceptable.
