Ew, who summoned David O. Russell from the swamps?

I'd like to see a whole movie about how Ronstadt - the HAIM of her day (um) - kind of went legit crazy for Punk / New Wave - made an underrated album (Mad Love (1980)) with THREE Elvis Costello cover songs and she herself wrote, um - zero - and then her management people were like "Ok, Linda - can we go back to something safer now?" Call it "Different Drum"........add drugs...........and 45 minutes just about her slutty (for her) hair cut / make-up...... Essential viewing.......... Side note: NONE of these things will be in the actual movie

This is going to be the lamest Oscar bait that most critics will pretend to like because they're afraid of Gomez's stans.

That was a cameo. I have a feeling this is going to be a big "push" to get Gomez an Oscar and turn her into an A list actress.

Ultimately, unless his niece comes forward and demands he be jailed for groping her, I don't really know if O. Russell is persona non grata. I really thought there would have been much more of a stink about Amsterdam than occurred.

I don't think it got beyond Film Twitter as far as social media reach. Selena Gomez is way more popular and active on social media than Christian Bale or pre- Barbie Margot Robbie.

Well, that would mean a hell of a lot of kids would be exposed to what a goddess songbird Linda was. I don't even follow young stars and I know Selena Gomez is crazy popular. I can't stand anything David O'Russell has done.

As someone that actually likes Russel’s output up to American Hustle, this feels like a disaster waiting to happen.

The former is one of the best and most underrated war films of the 90's, and the latter is one of the funniest films I've EVER seen. AMSTERDAM is by far the worst piece of shit he's ever made, and easily one of the worst films of the decade.

AMSTERDAM is by far the worst piece of shit he's ever made, and easily one of the worst films of the decade. What's weird about DOR is his early style was very much a Woody Allen writing style - in his first 3 movies (all solo original scripts) - he used to do a sort of great trick that Allen is a master of - where his characters had little quirks that other characters knew already and it was funny to them before we knew what exactly it meant to us - in the hilarious Flirting With Disaster you see this in the "the Grateful Dead" line (among many others) applying to Alan Alda and Lily Tomlin and their son's reaction to it ( "one band was at the center of it all!......the Grateful Dead blah blah blah" )........in Woody Allen it's in things like Tony Roberts calling Alvy "Max" in Annie Hall etc - It defines your characters in an odd or unusual / memorable way to an audience.......... That really helped make his early movies - Three Kings and Flirting With Disaster (Spanking the Monkey is more minor) stand up or get even better on rewatches because he didn't write jokes he wrote characters who were funny..........he's made good movies he didn't write at all ( The Fighter) but when he writes post-Three Kings it was never really solo, original until Amsterdam - I Heart Huckabees has a co-writer, SLP is based on a book, American Hustle was a rewrite of an existing script, Joy is based on a real life persoon / events)............. that's an over 20 year gap I think Amsterdam really hurt him personally on some level - because that's an original script, solo - from his head and pen, his ideas.........no real life person / book precedent.......no co-writer.................Really odd career he's had ..........

But besides The Fighter, I don't really like any of his other films.
