Guilds coming out for Saltburn, I see. Not that I expect it to get a nomination, but still.
Wonka is a surprising miss, and The Color Purple missing is a definite shocker.

Show of strength for Oppenheimer, particularly with The Color Purple and Wonka misses, as the costumes are period accurate in a decidedly unshowy way.

Though how is Poor Things period and not sci-fi/fantasy?

Yeah, Costume Design feels like the tech that I can see Oppenheimer miss just by virtue of it not being flashy at all, but at the same time, Oppenheimer's look (which has become signature, with his fedora and pipe) is distinct enough that I can see it getting name-checked. Funnily enough, I think it's fighting with Maestro for the same general slot, as I feel Barbie, Killers and Poor Things are safe and Napoleon is showy and substantial enough that I can't see it missing.

Though how is Poor Things period and not sci-fi/fantasy? I mean, it is a period piece as well, but they just wanted to have their cake and eat it, too, so they can reward Poor Things and Barbie (the de facto top two).

I knew it wasn’t going to happen, but it’s a disgrace that Passages didn’t get into Contemporary.

Oppenheimer and Maestro are fighting for that fifth spot in costumes in my opinion. Both are similar levels of showy (but not THAT showy). Oppenheimer is the bigger film, but Mark Bridges is the bigger name.

I hope the Nyad nomination was for this:

TCP seems to be underperforming here. No AFI. No Globe. It got in for CC, but no nods for directing, writing, and editing. Missing at CDG either means, they didn't get their screeners on time OR they don't have a passion for the production.

maybe Janty Yates finally gets another Oscar nom It's high time. I wish the CDG and makeup & hair guild made submissions public like the ADG. I was just browsing this year's slate of art direction presentations and they really give you a whole new appreciation for a movie's production design that's usually hard to soak in when you're just watching it.

Oh wow, thanks for the heads-up! Didn't know the presentations were out, great news

Saltburn had a low-key great guild run.
I think Poor Things wins out here by the poofy-dress rule (when in doubt, pick the film with the frilliest dresses), and the fact it's gaining momentum at the critical voting time. Barbie's win equity has winnowed substantially in the intervening months; Song is its only safe bet now. Poor Things is far more traditional in what they reward in Costumes and Production Design, pink paint be damned.

I'd be fine with Barbie edging out Poor Things in costumes as long as Poor Things takes production design.

Seriously, I know it's basically just winning awards in the contemporary category when all the actual contenders are in the other categories, but Saltburn has walked away with awards from 4 different Guilds so far I'm pretty sure it's the most awarded film yet across them all, yet zero Oscar noms. It's got to be some kind of record.
