They swapped out the American pretty boy (Melton) for the Australian pretty boy (Elordi) - other than that and the almost complete shutout of The Holdovers, this is a pretty staid list.

Haha....my Matt Damon theory coming to fruition. AACTA is an industry thing, and there's a really decent chance he sneaks in at the Oscars for either Oppenheimer or Air, despite not being one of the hyped/chosen contenders this year in either category he's eligible for. Also, if Cate Blanchett or Nicole Kidman have a movie out in any given year, 99.9% chance that AACTA will nominate them here (especially if there are no notable Australian performances that made an impact internationally). They are the standard bearers for Australian acting on the international scene ( no disrespect to Russell Crowe). It's impressive that they found a way to nominate Blanchett for a movie that quickly came and went on the festival circuit with little impact

( no disrespect to Russell Crowe). Not to mention that Blanchett and Kidman are actually Aussie. I'm wondering if Robbie and Elordi will be the new standard bearers for their generation in terms of international Aussie acclaim? mhynson27Oh, and Damon > Downey Jr. in Oppenheimer.

What's crazy is that looks like a plausible Best Actor lineup at the Oscars, while Giamatti winning is also completely plausible. And I don't see SAG clarifying much if/when Domingo gets in there for Rustin. Giamatti missing out for someone actually in the race rather than an Aussie in a random movie is a wrinkle.

An unpublished written rule for AACTA International Awards
- Reserved slot for Cate Blanchett or Nicole Kidman or both every year for whatever they are in

Blunt missing is weird, especially for Kirby and Cruz.

Blunt missing is weird, especially for Kirby and Cruz. But kind of makes sense. Blunt has felt like nothing more than a coattail nomination from the start.

Emily Blunt missing here is shocking esp. considering that Damon made it in.

Very pleased for McNamara getting an industry win. Here's hoping it's not the last one.

What is that Kirby win I can't think of any connection between Australia and that film or her specifically.
