I'm curious but also skeptical, Michel Franco is a masochistic and politically tone deaf director, I roll my eyes at the way he portraits the "injustices" of the world, he makes crazy movies but I did notice in his previous one (Sundown) that there was something new on display (a more loose atmosphere, experimenting with 60s european cinema and not trying to be Haneke for once) but did nothing with those new elements so the movie flew into the space. This trailer suggest a drastic change in tone, the end almost pictures it as an enchanting experience... we'll see. One thing is true, he's very good with non-mexican actors, Tim Roth should've won the Volpi Cup for the movie I just mentioned, Saarsgard looks great and I love Chastian without prosthetics.

I haven’t seen any of Franco’s films, but yeah, based on what I’ve read about his work in general, this was not the tone I was expecting.

Sarsgaard is such an interesting actor. He was involved in so many Oscar or Oscar-adjacent projects in the late 90s and early 2000s and did fucking amazing work in them (he *at least* deserved noms for Shattered Glass and Boys Don't Cry) but never got the acclaim he deserved, and in the last several years I feel he's kinda disappeared. I doubt his Volpi Cup translates to a serious Oscar run for this but I absolutely can't wait to see him in it. He deserves great roles and lots of them, and he looks great here.
Chastain is the icing on top. She's been absolutely killing it lately and I doubt this will be any exception.

Fantastic trailer. I wasn't really anticipating this but the trailer hooked me.
