You knew it was coming. Which film did you prefer? How about lead performances between Austin Butler and Cailee Spaeny?

Elvis wins because of the visual spectacle (who knew anyone could beat Sofia there) and Butler capturing the Elvis mythos better. I said in my post that Priscilla really needed to capture the gravitas of Elvis to show why no one could say no to him and why it was so hard for her to leave and it didn't really do that.

I haven't seen either, so I'm writing in Alien (2017). A portrait of the King as King of Kings, a pop culture monarch for the masses to worship. "I am the King. I am God."

Coming out of Priscilla, I’m not sure. Overall, Priscilla was better but Elvis had more strengths (Butler, production, plot lol) but also more glaring weaknesses (editing, Hanks, first half entirely) Coppola’s directing over Luhrmann though, for capturing what she did with so little - it left a lot to be desired, but it felt like meaningful snapshots of Priscilla’s life, so I’d give it to Coppola overall.

Elvis for sure. A sort of standard biopic script turned FUN and even sooomewhat electric at certain stages via Baz's craziness. Whereas Priscilla is kind of like The Zone of Interest of music biopics: a film of one repeated idea which keeps the elephant in the room almost out of sight.
Performance-wise it's easy: Butler & Spaeny. Neither get the chance to really shine as actors though.

Priscilla! I also preferred Elordi to Butler.

I don't think Priscilla is great, but it wins this one without even having to roll out of bed.

I'm a bigger fan of Elvis than most on here, but it's Priscilla for me. As far as performances, I'll take Butler over Spaeny but both are doing great work.
