Hey do you remember when Nicole Kidman was one of the best actresses of all time? No? Me neither.....because she fncking was not........... not in a world where Blanchett, Winslet, Liv Ullman, Streep, Redgrave, Magnani, Huppert, Bergman - and many others etc. - you know - "actually existed" ................ but she gave great performances in Birth and To Die For and Being The Ricardos.................. and now she's back and on TV after 2 seconds away from it - in a TV reconfiguration of her 2008 masterpiece (nah, j/k) / meisterbrau / Wiener schnitzel "Australia" co-starring Hugh (Ohhh, did someone say Wiener?) Jackman....... Basically it's the great stuff that wasn't great enough to get into a movie as great as Australia I guess : In June 2022, 20th Television announced a six-part limited television series titled Faraway Downs, consisting of a serialized version of the film with additional unused footage from the original production. The series will premiere on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ Star in Australia and other international markets.' Nov 26th

Hmmm...I could have sworn Kidman got voted one the the 50 Greatest Actors Of All Time by the British Public for Empire Magazine, less than 10 months ago. She's kinda a fixture on these things. You are one bitter dude though. Seethe

Also, isn't she about to be the only Australian actor in history (male or female) to recieve the AFI Lifetime achievement award (including Blanchett, who is still waiting for that accolade). She is one of only 3 non-American actors ever to be recognised by the highest honour the American film industry can bestow. The woman never needs to give another performance again. Her place in the pantheon in of all-time great actors is secure

Ok........- sure, why not - who am I to question the British public .................after you put her behind all the better actresses I named and Sissy Spacek, Geraldine Page, etc. and well you get the idea....... she s #50. it's not worth fighting about is it? Your point is fine. I don’t think it matters myself - 50th or 49th but it is what it is. The rest was just a whole lot of nothing.........Made myself laugh ^
Now give me a kiss ya big dummy - I'm being nice today

Whatever. I know you are desperate for my attention like a little lost puppy (a post slamming Kidman/Denzel/Nadal...y'all know you write that shit just to get me to respond ), so I caved in and gave it to you. But you only get a taste of my attention for today. Gotta wait for your next fix, Papi!

Ok, sorry about that (predictable, disturbing, homoerotic) detour - moving on! ahem! - Baz saying something or other - and he says how the idea came to him yadda yadda:

All jokes aside, I think this is a rather brilliant idea. I'll definitely be watching, and I'd love for other movies to be re-visited/re-edited in this way!

Whoa - please include all the jokes in my case - because my jokes were funny - and I went from this thread right into that jackpot Djokovic thread .........which will be providng me laughs for like ........ever basically.............I mean that was some pretty complex back to back shade posting for Monday AM........ Anyhoo........... It is a good idea because you don't know (in any case) what the director had in the can to be used and what new things he could shoot too.......I always thought Francis Coppola when he goes back to tinker with his films could also do this kind of thing too and write / shoot some new material too for them

Why does this exist Absolutely. Australia was too fucking long to begin with. How is making it even longer going to help . The story and script was too thin and making it episodical won't change that. Feels like Lurhmann is just stroking his ego a bit by returning to his big magnum opus that flopped in America in hopes of getting a ratings hit and some better reviews. And I think he's probably also cynically taking advantage of the fact that almost everything Kidman seems to touch in the TV/streaming space becomes a massive hit. Even Special Ops: Lioness, which Kidman produced and took a supporting role in, has turned into a big ratings hit for Paramount +, despite so-so reviews.

pupdurcs Tommen_Saperstein - Oh, I definitely disagree! I think the first part of Australia (chiefly the parts with Kidman inheriting this remote estate and then the odyssey of driving the cattle cross-country with Jackman) are very interesting and well-done - totally unique, too - I mean, name another movie about cattle driving! I also really liked the performance of the young Aboriginal actor - Kidman often has great dexterity with child actors, and this was no exception. It's when it becomes yet another bloated WWII disaster epic that it loses its way... I'm definitely interested to see how (if?) this format can correct that abrupt tonal/narrative shift.

pupdurcs - How about this: An Australian-set, female-led cattle driving movie.

pupdurcs - How about this: An Australian-set, female-led cattle driving movie. Hmm...I can actually see something in this idea. Judy Davis as the matriarch of a cattle empire. Her three feuding daughters, played by Nicole Kidman, Cate Blanchett and Toni Collete, battle it out over who will inherit the cattle empire A female, Australian take on King Lear, as a cattle driving movie. I think this story and casting already has a lot more potential than Australia (or Faraway Downs as it's now known)
