I used to read them all the time in middle school when all I ever watched were superhero movies, and I had this weird compulsion to read all the novelizations either before or after seeing the movies. Aside from those, I also remember reading some Star Wars novelizations as well. My first time seeing Batman Begins at the theater was funny because I read the novelization beforehand and was thrown off by Nolan’s nonlinear structure at the beginning (the novelization isn’t like that)... my 15-year-old brain was like “Why is it out of order?” And to this day, when I watch the film, I still remember some of the interior thoughts of the characters that are only in the novelization. What novelizations have you read, if any? Did you read them before or after seeing the movie, and how were they different (if at all) from the movies?

Well, I've read Jane Campion's novelization of The Piano! I thoroughly enjoyed it - it provides quite a bit of backstory - Ada's life in Scotland, Flora's father and his relationship to Ada, Stewart's and Baines' histories... If you're interested at all, I definitely recommend!

2001: A Space Odyssey, but that probably doesn't count
Also, Halloween (1978) a long time ago
That's it

OUATIH is worth mentioning as a high profile recent one - I haven't read it but I enjoyed QT's promoting and his novelize hot takes ( "Orca > Jaws" ).
I'd have to think back what I've read, but I'm usually curious about em, and wanna get my hands on some especially.... Jim Thompson doing Nothing But A Man (1964).... the upcoming Megalopolis....... Cassavetes apparently wrote an 800pg novelization of Husbands while editing it that's never been published (Falk highly praised the book)...... speaking of Falk, they novelized an unmade Columbo script A Christmas Killing that's impossible to find.

I used to read them as a kid, around ages 9-12. I read the novelizations for Batman & Robin, X-Men, Halloween and Desperate Measures because I loved the trailer so much lol. Since then the only one I've read is Tarantino's OUaTiH, which was a blast.

Only two that I can remember are American Gangster and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is the only one that comes to mind. Unless the... comicbookization of Raimi's Spider-Man counts! Used to read it over and over again when I was on my Spidey high back in 2002/2003
