Cruz is as close to a lock as you can be right following latest batch of reviews - she steals the pic? Is that enough to get her in? Also this was an embarrasing MAR poll I think - how did that many people list her as overrated? movie-awards-redux.freeforums.net/post/324503/thread

Cruz feels very much like someone who will get a Globe nomination pretty easily and she is Academy royalty (and the individual reviews are solid enough for a nomination), but the studio isn't great and the film itself is pretty tepidly received. I feel she's eventually going to get bypassed.

Yeah I could see that .........SAG would be a huge plus to get in - she missed all big precursors for her last Oscar nod but had Volpi - and she's been nodded a good bit by SAG.......one of the more intriguing names anyway this year........

I doubt Cruz makes it tbh.

I'm fairly confident in Henson, Randolph, Brooks and Blunt. Have no idea what to do with that 5th slot. Guess I'm sticking with Foster for now.

Not saying you are wrong because I don’t know but you were pretty dismissive of Cruz. I’m curious what you think Foster has going for her that Cruz doesn’t?

A more audience friendly movie, and I feel Neon is just going to through Ferrari to the wayside.

I’ve heard rumours that Juliette Binoche in The Taste of Things has a lot of passion amongst BAFTA, EFA, Golden Globes and AMPAS voters. IFC Films are apparently pushing her here. I could see her happening if enough people see it. I just don’t have much trust in IFC Films, maybe SPC could’ve pulled it off.

Binoche is absolutely someone who could sneak into BAFTA if she gets onto the longlist.

Randolph Blunt Moore
Then I don't know. I will see how The Color Purple pans out in the coming weeks to decide. Foster and Pike's films are really weak which makes me feel that someone with a lot of passion votes would surge and overtake them.

Randolph Brooks Moore Blunt
These four are pretty strong. Foster makes sense as a namecheck veteran but probably nobody cares about Nyad a month from now. It might even be a random nomination like McAdams or Pike.

So, are you guys currently predicting a nomination for Rachel McAdams for Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret.? The precursors have been very kind, and the fifth slot seems wide open after Randolph, Blunt, Brooks, and Moore... Why isn't she campaigning?

I think it's surprisingly doable for McAdams to get in, but I have a feeling SAG is just going to go elsewhere and I can't see her getting in without SAG, though she could easily be a BAFTA jury save.

I think I'm leaning towards Pike for that 5th slot. But any of McAdams, Foster, Henson or Cruz could spoil.

I'll probably change my mind after SAG, but...
1. Randolph - Critics Circle champion by a mile and a half, Best Picture contender 2. Blunt - Been hosed twice for A Quiet Place (still a crime against humanity) and Mary Poppins 2, but she's in a Best Picture front-runner and has a big scene toward end.
Those are the only two I am confident in.
3. Brooks 4. Moore 5. McAdams
Cruz, Pike, Foster, Huller, Ferrara, and Davis as spoilers.

Brother Fease - No, I'm simply pleasantly surprised by the precursor support she's gotten thus far. My concern is whether enough voters have actually seen the film? There doesn't seem to be any campaign.
