Have you ever seen these before? I am wondering if this is just a U.S thing. For those who don't know, it's a mini library. You can take out a book/DVD/audio book or donate one. Have you ever borrowed a book from there? Does your community have one? Whenever I go for my one hour daily walk, I always see one and look at the books in there.

They are all over my town - and in ones that are not official also and packed with some crazy stuff - lots of Leftist America Hating leaflets, lots of scary af far right BS, lots of stuff from the local Anarchists, bless 'em.....like there's food pantries and things also all over here......there is nothing like being hungover and stumbling across a pantry box and thinking "Fnck yeah, a can of corn! Hope I get home ok so I can eat this" My town must be the most literate, well fed town in America, there are multiple libraries - public, private, college - and these boxes........I go for walks all the time just to look into what my closest library is stocking because it blows my mind....my local library is where I found out about a local screening of the 1937 film Lady Killer and things like that - like the libraries here are hip ffs......I have taken books and brought books to Little Free Libraries......I have gone for walks with my gf where we'll get a book and partially read it together in the park just being goofy .....the Anarchist stuff is fun for that tbh For a long time I misunderstood what these things were and thought "Little Library" meant books for short people.......

We have the same deal in upstate NY -- lots of local colleges, libraries, and little libraries, and the ability to find old films. I see the Little Libraries as cute and community building. Good for you, donating things. That's the idea. Well done sir! Side question: Does your area have a "classic" movie theater? We have the Dryden Theater, where they play silent movies and black-and-white films.

We have them around my area. My wife will grab a book to read to my daughter during my son’s basketball practice and then drop it back off.

Definitely not just a U.S. thing. There's a couple within like a 5 minute walk of my house.

It will be a cold day in hell the day a book that I'm interested in winds up in one of those things

Love the idea. I just dropped off half my DVD collection at my local library and worry they might just collect dust in a corner because fewer and fewer ppl are bothering to check out movies at their libraries when everything's digital. This is much more accessible and I could see someone grab a movie and then just take it back later. If there are any of these in Northern VA I hope my Dexter S1 ends up in one of them

Today I walked a different way to go to a new place for lunch - and in that part of town - there are THREE "unofficial" ones in a resiential neighborhood that I had never seen before............and that was 3 just n about a 15 minute walk .........it's pretty weird..........
