… or our Camus? or our Voltaire? (shouldn't be French necessarily of course, these are just examples) Whose writings reflect not just the way we think (God knows we're not running out of intellectuals with platforms) but the way we live now? You can say there never was a definite "we" to begin with; now we're fortunate to have great writings that are easy to access from everywhere in the globe, but you know what I'm saying. I'm asking about an author (or better, a circle of them) who write of and for people in 2023 (so as needlessly limiting as I sound, let's put historical and science fiction aside) and do it good... Or is it too early to ask? Let's give this A.I invasion thing a decade or two and then the next great authors/philosophers will arise... or serious literature doesn't even matter (like it used to) anymore... and we should just stick to podcasters

I have a pet theory on things like this: I have a pet theory on everything tbh - that the Pop Art of any era -- including books - then takes an exceedingly cultivated taste to find the same stimulation effect years later since the influential Art in any future era is - well - underground or contrary to what was once the mainstream........otherwise it's nostalgia or working an existing template. So that means to me - the writer who is Sartre now appears nothing like Sartre in fame or cultural influence exactly.....I think Simon Armitage is a great poet - a living poet - who does THAT for a living now ffs? - and he has a worldview and POV but it would not be as apparent at it was then - he's nothing "like" those writers yet I find connectons in his thought........ Tom Wolfe occupied this place in America for some time though.......Hunter Thompson........and no one ever thought to compare them to Camus I'm guessing...... It's a good topic......I'm saying the new Voltaire is possibly - likely even ? - working in an Art form that does not involve books or writing anything down at all.....it's a video game designer....a Podcast....a visionary Porn director (imagine the Porn director who you would call "the Camus of Porn" ) David Bowie actually spoke to this in a roundabout way in comparing The Beatles to The Velvet Underground in the 60s - he's almost exactly right.....

Oh honey, I know however I say this it's going to come across as hugely narcissistic and egocentric but I think it could be me!
Sartre would definitely be a woman today... probably one with good moves and great wit. Si, c'est moi!
It's also more than a coincidence that I've been thinking of bringing out a Camus bag and a line of 'Simoan' argumentative cocktail dresses as part of my Existentialist Crisis fall collection. Watch out for my 'Hell is Other People' Tote beach bags and sarcastic sunglasses and accessories for the modern person who likes to feel nothingness on the Riviera. I'll also be launching my own celebrity fragrance, Nihilism with a theatrical ad campaign featuring myself spraying up a cloud of scent and then driving a sports car into the wall of a boutique hotel.
I'd love to tell you more but I am unable to as I am currently on strike until all my demands are met.

I'm not at all familiar with Sartre and not terribly familiar with Camus, so it's hard for me to say...
But judging from what little I know, it is difficult to find "modern philosophers" that aren't dabbling in speculative fiction - and truth be told, even the writers who are writing "philosophical" stories in that genre are copying the homework of others. I haven't played any Hideo Kojima games for a while - Metal Gear Solid 4 really soured me on continuing with his most well known series - but he's the closest option I can think of in that he tries to examine our modern, alienated lives through his "modern" soldiers (raised on the best virtual training that video games can offer).
