God this summer has not been great for more older appealing adult fare. Sound of Freedom is doing amazing, at least, but given the people involved with it, I'm less excited about that one.

Between The Flash, Indiana Jones and now MI underperforming, I can safely say that I don't understand this year's box office I thought MI would be an easy smash hit, especially after the raves that Fallout got AND on the heels on Top Gun. Guess not!

Everyone’s just waiting for Barbenheimer i wonder how much of a factor that actually plays, considering there’ll be a lot of people that go to both barbie and oppenheimer. seems like going to three shows in a span of 2-3 weeks would be pretty overkill for a lot of the general audience i don’t know too much about the box office, but wouldn’t this opening on wednesday play a big role too? looking at the numbers, fallout made 22 million opening day, so this made around 7 million less, but this did open 2 days earlier and has already made around 24 million on those 2 days still on track to underperform nonetheless

It's going to open 250 mil worldwide. That's fine, it's not all about the domestic take with Cruise. Next one will probably be bigger with it possibly being the last one.

Surprising strong Saturday increase for MI7. Maybe not all hope is lost?

I am confused on this boxoffice projections. The movie made 80 mill at the NA BO, and 235 mill worldwide. That's a lot. Somehow that's seen as a failure.

It cost $291m to produce, and that's not including marketing and all other fees. Plus, you have to consider that not all of the gross revenue goes to the studio - it's split with exhibitors and depending on the country that split could be more or less favorable to the studio. I think the film will probably be alright depending on its legs (A Cinemascore bodes well) but this was an underwhelming opening.

I'm sure they used some of the locations/sets for Part Two, but they did not shoot the two films back-to-back (Cruise had to promote Top Gun: Maverick) and there was a gap in production. The strike right now has halted production.

wild how much budgets are ballooning right now
i was gonna say, 80 million for this in the first 5 days is solid considering fallout made 60 million in 3 days, but with that budget, it’s hard to make this a great success at the B.O

Sound of Freedom is apparently playing sold out screenings… to very few, or no actual viewers, sparking credible claims of astroturfing.
I’m seeing Barbenheimer on Saturday, so before one of them, I’ll sneak in to see if anyone’s actually in there.

I went last week on a Thursday at 4pm and there were at least 85, maybe 100 people in the audience. I was shocked.

Granted, I’m in Florida, so it could unironically have a lot of people in there (it was destined to attract *those* audiences). But hearing these reports of nearly empty auditoriums, it feels insidious.

What can you expect from a movie that advises people to buy tickets to this movie for their friends to end child trafficking?
