Here are several films of 2022 I consider well worth watching: Is this an adaptation of Daphne du Maurier's The House on the Strand? That's a pretty cool book, and the basic concept - a drug that allows you to travel back in time - is the same.

Here are two more films I'd recommend: Kira & El Gin (directed by Marwan Hamed) Padre Pio (directed by Abel Ferrara)

Okay, Zanox: Risks and Side Effects was pretty fun. It only really picks up in the final third (and I'd love another hour to explore what gets opened up towards the end), but it is good entertainment... which is hard to come by in 2022. Thanks for the recommendation or I'd have never heard of it.

I’m trying to get serious about blitzing through this year’s films over the next couple of weeks just so I can put together a solid enough ballot to inflate All Quiet on the Western Front and Babylon’s point totals

Here are several films of 2022 I consider well worth watching: Funniest movie of the year! I've said it before, I'll say it again: Nawapol Thamrongrattanarit is the poet of a generation. From Mary Is Happy, Mary Is Happy to Heart Attack to Happy Old Year, he has captured life as a young person in the modern world. In F&FL, he tackles many of his favorite subjects with his usual careful touch: the failure to learn "adulting," the loneliness of the modern youth, the selfishness and pride of kids against their parents and older generations, the shifting nature of memory and the lure of nostalgia. But he brings something new to the table with this one: Irreverent, wildly silly humor. Not to say that his previous movies weren't funny - Mary Is Happy, Mary Is Happy should be the textbook example of how to do "random" and surreal humor - but F&FL is a broad, crowdpleasing comedy that fills every minute with belly laughs. The extreme exaggeration of the imagination spots or Colombian segments (Edward having to sneak away after his bedtime to make menacing phone calls to Thailand is one of the stupidest and funniest gags in recent memory), the perfect use of bathos in the repeated gag of swelling up the emotional music only to cut to someone's face not giving a crap, the joke of the high-pressures sales guy being the salesperson for every company Kao comes into contact with - it is all over-the-top, wickedly funny stuff. And while this is primarily a broad comedy, those themes and subjects that always fascinate Thamrongrattanarit are at play here in perfect harmony. This is a touching portrait of wayward kids who grow up without knowing how to be an adult. The difference between this movie and his previous films is that F&FL is primarily looking to entertain. And it does. "You know the PS5 you wanted? Well, I'm not paying for it." On a side note, can we talk about the *numerous* movie references and parodies this movie is stuffed with? I don't think that they are inherently funny in themselves, but I think it is important to note what movies Thamrongrattanarit pays tribute to: Star Wars, John Wick, Parasite, The Matrix, The Fast & Furious, DCU and MCU franchises, probably a dozen others I didn't catch. With the exception of Parasite - which was a huge cultural hit - these are not arthouse movies. These are normal movies for normal people - when people that don't sit on a message board watching obscure Thai language flicks all day talk about movies, they talk about these - and the respect shown for these "common" entertainments is so refreshing to see. We're seeing a master filmmaker acknowledge that these are important cultural touchstones that characters talk about and joke about. So often moviemakers pay tribute to "the masters," or people like Tarantino trying to point people towards obscure movies that influenced them. But F&FL celebrates populist entertainment and their nature of bringing people together. I'm predicting that 2 Fast 2 Feel Love will have a trailer modeled after Barbenheimer. For eligibility purposes: Urassaya Sperbund - lead or supporting?

Glad you enjoyed this and I'm glad you've become a fan of Nawapol Thamrongrattanarit, who, for me, is one of the best directors working today and Fast & Feel Love is one of my favorite movies of the year. And also, to answer your last question, I consider Urassaya Sperbund supporting (she's actually my winner there).

Ok, I've counted everything and the results are a complete mess (films that have gathered 18 points have made it into the top 50 ), but with only 21 ballots, most of them featuring the same films, it was only logical. Despite that, it makes for a very interesting top 50 (or top 51, lol). Anyway, I will be presenting the results, for anyone interested, today at 5 pm UTC.
