Do you find him talented as an actor?
Generally speaking, I think of him as a charisma black hole... it's not even a Brad Pitt situation where his looks belie his true calling as a character actor - I don't think he's particularly memorable in those roles, either.
There are a few notable exceptions... I compare him to Ioan Gruffudd in that I think his best performance was given before he left the UK for Hollywood - he was so good in the British version of Queer as Folk! I've enjoyed him more in parts where he's returned to his roots - i.e. Nicholas Nickleby and The Lost City of Z - but I just don't think the macho action roles suit him, at all.
Anyway, please, share your thoughts!

He's really good at playing creeps, most notably in Cold Mountain and Children of Men. He's kinda out of his depth for a large chunk (re: most of it) of Sons of Anarchy, and he is kinda charmingly miscast in Crimson Peak. I don't dislike him, but yeah, I feel like a little Hunnam goes a long way.

Cold Mountain and Children of Men For me, the only way I could even remember he was in those was through perusing his filmography credits. That's why I mentioned that I felt he wasn't memorable in character-driven parts, either... Compare him, for instance, to his co-star Nicholas Hoult in True History of the Kelly Gang, who is so chilling in a supporting turn, using his physique/looks to add to his menace. Again, I legitimately couldn't remember Hunnam was even in that film.

Yeah, he's definitely the weak link of True History of the Kelly Gang, which is a shame because that is such a phenomenal ensemble otherwise (Essie Davis supremacy!), but I wouldn't say he's necessarily ruinous in it. But yeah, there's more than a few actors I could've featured in that role.

My wife approves all of his shirtless and bare butt scenes in Sons of Anarchy.
For me, I like him but agree he’s better is smaller roles vs trying to be a leading man.

I have nothing against him but I find him bland and forgettable. He's been given chance after chance in big and/or baity projects and has not made his mark yet.

I mostly think he's terrible,he's so incredibly wooden, but occasionally he will give a surprisingly decent performance. He was really good in The Gentleman and The Lost City of Z.

Nicholas Nickleby ruined Hunnam for me early in my childhood and I've had no thoughts about him ever since.

I actually really like that movie. But you know how much I love classic British literary adaptations! This one was written/directed by Douglas McGrath, who also made the Gwyneth Paltrow version of Emma - he should have made more films like these! Hunnam is legitimately good in the UK version of Queer as Folk - I think everyone should check that out (streaming on Amazon Prime). It seems other imports like Colin Farrell and Heath Ledger stole any American thunder he may have had - Hunnam may have been more "model pretty", but obviously nowhere near them in terms of talent/charisma.

Oh right, he is actually pretty good in The Lost City of Z... but I do think there's a lot of other actors who could've done that role as well if not better.

"I'm pivoting away – very seriously – into being a full-time writer."Hm... I guess the offers just aren't there? Again, like Ioan Gruffudd, I really do wish he had never left the UK. I would love to have seen how his career might have been different had he stayed on there and really capitalized on the British popularity of 'Queer as Folk' - it was huge there at the time! Would you be interested in watching anything he writes that might end up being filmed? ibbi

He strikes me as someone who'd be some kind of cross between Steven Knight and Taylor Sheridan. Good if you can get it right, but macho posturing nonsense when you don't. The projects he's penned sound like they lend a little credence to that notion.
