He was crucial in tying in a visual style to FFC's idea(s) of Harry Caul being "seen through" - this kind of thing pops up in many ways in the movie and is almost never talked about but this style plays on the viewer in many subtle ways....for example there's a scene where Caul is on a trolley car and the lights keep going out that magnifies this effect too where it becomes is Harry "really" Harry when we don't see him......or is he more "himself" in the dark and hidden? ..........you could write a whole book on that kind of work but alas, it's the kind of work that never gets any credit......look up any "cinematography" threads on MAR and we looooooooooooooooooooove to talk about really wide shots of sunlight and fields and stuff like that.......... RIP
