I was fixing to say that Mendes himself made a typo, but here’s hoping. As long as it’s better than EOL.

If this is based on the Maggie O'Farrell novel, I'm in. Mendes gives me a bit of pause but the source material is strong enough that I have some faith.
As for who should play Agnes, two words: AISLING. FRANCIOSI.

I didn't read 'Hamnet', but I really loved her latest novel, 'The Marriage Portrait' - she is such a strong and evocative writer.

Yeah, it’s the O’Farrell novel.
Shakespeare doesn’t have a lot to do in the book, si they’re probably expanding his role.

Honestly, we should just found our own casting company and cast Barry and Aisling in every project.

Honestly, we should just found our own casting company and cast Barry and Aisling in every project. Luck of the Irish Productions. And our logo is just a picture of me with my ginger af hair. It's a foolproof business model really.

I've heard great things about the novel but Sam Mendes ...

This just became one of my most anticipated films. Zhao is a huge upgrade for me (no shade to Mendes, but he's very inconsistent and I think Zhao would crush this).

Okay, I am suddenly interested. The plot sounds terrible, but Zhao is 2/3 from what I've seen (Nomadland is sooo bad), and is one of the most exciting recent directors.

It's a great novel, and I love the idea of Zhao's naturalistic gift with actors to be applied to a period piece. Of course, my dream project of Zhao's is for her to adapt Cormac McCarthy's Cities of the Plain with Brady Jandreau as John Grady Cole and Blaze's Ben Dickey as Billy Parham.

Brady Jandreau turning into a star is too wonderful for it to ever be possible in this world

To go from Mendes and Holland to Zhao and Mescal is the best upgrade I’ve ever seen lmao.

Wasn’t Hamnet very young though? I feel like Mescal is way too thicc to play a teenager. Holland, while I find him totally talentless and annoying, does perpetually look about 15.

Maybe this has been mentioned and I missed it - but Buckley and Mescal are Olivier winners in successive years so they have the pedigree / sensibility .......like we were saying theater chops do not make you necessarily a better film actor and are usually not equated as such by the general public......at the same time, your acting background can help with what roles you want and get too
