Please, share your thoughts on this Emmy- and Tony-winning, unconventionally beautiful talent. I've always loved her in The Big Easy and Sea of Love, but I have to admit that my estimation of her rose tremendously when I learned that wendy ranks her among her 10 favorite American actresses. It's undeniable that she's a fearless, ferocious performer, and yet totally natural and without affectation... I get that she doesn't need to work anymore (Ron Perelman lost $$$$ in their divorce... whew), but I miss seeing her on my screen! Edit: Can you believe Scorsese never cast her in anything? They seem so ideally matched...

This is gonna sound bad.....but I'm going to call her an underachiever and question her mental health. A formerly great-ish (at times) actress who I think is - right now - one of the few actors you can discern a kind of mental illness in - Meg Ryan........Idris Elba.......her......where when she speaks it's odd at best.......I'm not a doctor - I'm just' saying when she speaks the last 10 years she's part Kanye / part Fred Flinstone's neighbor Weirdly Gruesome....... She has 2/3rds of the Triple Crown (missing Oscar, no nods).....I love her 80s work.....I think the Johnny Depp thing made her .......um, go off the rails a lot.....unrequited love with too many dudes and way too much unearned money......recipe for disaster........or a lack of discipline anyway She's quite hilarious in the movie Switch which showed off her gift for comedy which she didn't get to show much ... Her body - can we talk about her body or is that objectifying her - was quite unbelievable and the kind of body that some people just "have" - I doubt she spent a day in the gym in the Sea of Love days........was fun to see her and Pacino re-team in Oceans 13... Pacino had never been really "great" opposite a female until her - sort of he was with Keaton in GF / GF 2 and Pfeiffer in Scarface but it was limited by their film relationship to him ....... Barkin gave him someone to fully open up to onscreen.....he owes a lot to her - both for his film comeback and for opening a side of himself up on screen which later paid off with great chemistry opposite way better actresses than Ellen Barkin later (Hunter, Pfeiffer (again), Bening, Mirren, Streep, etc) Edit - He was great romantically directly opposite Kitty Winn in Panic in Needle Park - slipped my mind but still......Barkin took really odd roles to act opposite the GOATs (Nicholson in Man Trouble - awful) and De Niro (This Boys Life - a pretty good movie but not a good part) or actors she just liked - Voight, Rourke in Johnny Handsome etc........I think she wishes she had a do over tbh....where she could have shaped her film work more in ways that capitalized on Sea of Love / The Big Easy ....

So goddamn hot in the 80s, and even to this day (well, till 10 years ago which is the last time I saw her in anything) when she shows up in something she brings a unique energy that I love. One of the true highlights of The Cobbler.

way too much unearned money...... Now... I can't go that far. Even if she blew Perelman just once a year, I'd say she earned every penny of that settlement. Don't you wish she had worked with Scorsese?

Don't you wish she had worked with Scorsese? It is odd - tough NYC actress, tough NYC filmmaker ........there's a huge insane list of odd things with the iconic males in general with their toxic penises though......... how did Scorsese never work with Rowlands (wtf).........how did Pacino never work with Burstyn especially (De Niro too iirc?)......... the 2 GOAT men - THE NYC actors ..........finally made a movie together and it turns out to be a definitive Los Angeles film Scorsese would have loved her at one time though:

I'm confused about the "unconventionally beautiful" part...what? She seemed like a standard hottie at her prime
