I'm going with Samantha Morton and Tahar Rahim. How about you? Just English speaking...... Michelle Williams (great in Fabelmans btw - this board is wackadoodle) - said it as far back as before Fosse / Verdon so.......if Haenel ever comes back.....but alas.........she's fighting whatever she's fighting I think men are really interesting - DiCaprio and Phoenix will be the only actors who get compared to DePac - since DePac actually - but are not likely to do their, um, questionable crapola - and unlike Hanks can go dark and unlike Washington they have some comic triumphs - particularly DiCap........they will look like each other as they get older more than you think..........and you will want to throw up at how many times they show up in MAR polls........

DiCaprio/Gosling (tie); Wock's not even in the discussion for me anymore, his precision is completely gone.
Winslet, I think. (Pugh is astonishing, and has many of Winslet's strengths, but not quite the same highs and body of work yet). Riseborough is the premier chameleon, but she needs to anchor more meaningful projects to leap into "Best Working Actress".

Our Possible Oscar Winners next year - and if they both win ..........the world may explode tbh

Amy Adams and I guess Bale.
This is a way deeper bunch for actresses. Saoirse is close but I don't think has quite the breadth of work. After that you've got Cotillard, Michelle Williams, Rooney Mara, Chastain, Portman, Emily Blunt, Emma Stone, Margot Robbie and others.
For actors the other people I thought about were really only Damon and maybe Fassbender. Phoenix has been great a couple times but I'd really like to see a great performance from him as a relatively normal character and not that same kind of weirdo he seems to play in every movie for the past 15ish years.

Among actresses it's easily Marion Cotillard who I think is the closest thing to an heir apparent to Liv Ullmann. Followed by Olivia Colman (she's 49, though many seem to think she's as old as Helen Mirren). Then Amy Adams.
Among actors there's a dire lack of talent under 50 imo. The popular ones like DiCaprio, Bale, Cooper ain't all that to me. I would call Joaquin Phoenix and Casey Affleck the premier talent of this age group. Unfortunately Casey has been cancelled so there won't be much work for him in the future. Ryan Gosling is fine, but he's never been great to me. Fassbender is pretty good as well, but I think I'm partially blinded by his sex appeal.
If we are going even younger (under 40), I also think there's a lot more new talent among actresses than there are actors.

Steve Jobs is the best performance any of the guys in this age range have. 12 Years a Slave and Prometheus would be up there as well. Might have to think about changing my vote now that I think about it. The gap gets even bigger under 40, the younger actors are pathetic right now, nobody @ me with Chalamet.
