That Lead Actor in a Drama Series lineup is perfection.
Interesting that you have Serkis in Supporting, because he's 100% Guest eligible per the Emmy guidelines.

That's a lot of television watching. Better Call Saul, Severance, White Lotus: Sicily, Hacks and Ray Liotta making your list makes me very happy. Excellent job.
Are you saving Ted Lasso for 2024 awards?
Last year, we had so much fun talking about the Emmys and forecasting them. I want to do it again this year. I'll try to recruit people from our Oscar board.

I don't know what the Emmy rules are but for me 2 is the cutoff for guests. At 3 you're either recurring or supporting and Kino's role in the plot is significant enough to warrant supporting for me. Eric Dane in Euphoria S2 is another example. Only really got 1 ep to have his big moment but appeared briefly in like 2 or 3 other eps.

I go by year not Emmy eligibility dates so Ted Lasso S3 will be eligible next year. Lots to look forward to in 2023. Succession, Yellowjackets, Perry Mason, Sex Education (hopefully) and I can't wait to check out Last of Us.

I opted against doing any writeups this year but I was tempted because 2022 TV was pretty fantastic but here are some scattered thoughts about some of the picks:
-- Better Call Saul was a no-brainer for series (S6 was its best) and Odenkirk and especially Seehorn were in classes by themselves. In a season that was all about jimmy and Kim facing the consequences of their actions, Odenkirk and Seehorn delivered their best work suffused with grief and regret.
-- Zendaya might be a controversial pick around these parts lol. I get it, I personally didn't like Euphoria S2 much at all (nor S1 actually) despite having some excellent performances, but whereas Rue came across as too obnoxiously edgy & cynical in S1 the claws really came out in S2, especially in "Stand Still Like the Hummingbird" where she's absolutely chilling as this young woman completely lost in addiction.
-- Most people might pick the White Lotus finale as their standout but for me it was Ep. 5 ("That's Amore") which propelled the relationships of its characters into new territory and darker waters. The awkward scenes with the two couples, Mia and Valentina's scenes, Tanya's shocking revelation at the end of the episode. Episode 5 is the turning point of the season.
-- Janelle James was absolutely hilarious in Abbott Elementary and her main character energy and attention-hungry hijinks as the incompetent Principle Ava are endlessly fun to watch. Goldberg was a close 2nd but sometimes you just love a comedy performance that's honest-to-god funny and James was that in spades.
-- The wonderful Sian Brooke came out on top in the guest drama category but Prasanna Puwanarajah was one of the cast highlights of The Crown S5 as a ruthless Martin Bashir. Armed with a constant scowl and probing manipulation tactics, he's the sleeper villain of the season but sympathetic and interesting in his own right. The scene between Puwanarajah's Bashir and Debicki's Diana in the car at the end of "No Woman's Land" was one of the best in the season. He's coming at the conversation with his own self-serving angle but his appeal to Diana as a fellow outsider rings true in its own way. It's a mesmerizing performance and I hope the Emmy voters remember him next summer.
ok, that's a wrap!
Film awards coming soon.

Great job HOnestly can't believe you watched this much tv in one year...? Would you like to do a TV review thing for me for my magazine, please???? I'm gonna update my thread on the magazine soon with links to the latest issue. And another thing, I was expecting Taron and his show Blackbird to have more of a showing on here, for some reason )

Thank you for honoring Kaitlin Olson. She is really good in Hacks. She and the entire cast of Sunny has been grossly overlooked this is the year I'm finally gonna start watching Sunny. Seeing Olson in the main cast list was all the persuasion I needed I had no idea this thing is still running and I saw it just got picked up for like three more seasons so I've got lots of time to catch up! @ rhodoraonline well I watched that much TV by watching a lot fewer movies last year, and I don't like the tradeoff so this year might be different... also I missed sooooo much good TV in the 2010s (I really only watched GoT, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul) that now I've gone to the opposite extreme. But I'd rather see too much than too little.

But I'd rather see too much than too little. They are doing 18 total seasons. The first season is the weakest, but the quality of the show gets better and better. In the first season, they remind you too often that the main characters are terrible people. Sunny maybe my favorite comedy series — funny, satirical and something to easy to watch.
