It's funny, they wouldn't give him the money to do Masters of the Air or whatever it's called, but they're shelling out for this one. They better not be doing it on the cheap.

This was first announced literally 10 years ago. At one point, Cary Fukunaga was attached to direct. Good to see it's stayed on his mind to get this made in collaboration with Kubrick's family, but unless he himself is directing it, I'm staying cautious in my optimism.

Good to see it's stayed on his mind to get this made in collaboration with Kubrick's family, but unless he himself is directing it, I'm staying cautious in my optimism. I've always been a proponent that Nicolas Winding Refn and Larry Smith (who DP'd Eyes Wide Shut and Only God Forgives) should do this.

I've always been a proponent that Nicolas Winding Refn and Larry Smith (who DP'd Eyes Wide Shut and Only God Forgives) should do this. That feels like the most suitable team for this project. Kubrick was fixated on the idea of making his movies adhere to an "economy of statement" and who better exemplifies that than the guy that made Drive?

I mean, don't get me wrong, I love Spielberg and he's great with historical epics, but I just want to see what Refn and Co. could do with a proper period piece of that scale.
