anybody see Candy on Hulu last year with Jessica Biel? Because this is exactly the same story. I missed it but this looks better to me even though prestige true crime is so played out at this point. Olsen and Plemons look great.

Do we need another version so soon? I personally loved CANDY and thought Jessica Biel was absolutely phenomenal in it. Not sure if Elizabeth Olsen will be able to top that performance.

Not sure if Elizabeth Olsen will be able to top that performance. my guess is they were both in production at the same time and Hulu just beat HBO to the punch. White House Plumbers also is going to be covering a lot of same stuff that was in Gaslit last year on Starz so it happened twice!

The first 3 episodes are incredible. Elizabeth Olsen is absolutely mesmerizing.

I hope this is as good as it looks. After I finish binging Succession, I'll make my way to it.

Liked this way more than I thought I would. Olsen is tremendous and the finale had me on the edge of my seat (partly because of my own ignorance of the case probably). Has a tabloidy feel to it probably intentionally. Maybe in bad taste how the show relentlessly tries to show everything from Candy's POV but still doesn't shy away from the brutality of the killing (really tough sitting through *that* scene ugh), but what was more fascinating to me is how inane it all was. It was just a dumb sordid affair that had already ended, but it led to THAT. best episodes were the finale but IMO the even better midpoint "Do No Evil" which centers the killing but wisely doesn't show it (they save that for the finale), instead focusing on the direct aftermath as Candy tries going about her day and the neighbors eventually come to find the body. Shocking episode, for all the right reasons, and has some of Olsen's best moments as this housewife totally on the edge, going about her errands and chores while trying to suppress this shocking act of violence in her own mind. She's oft-kilter, too smiley, talking too fast, hiding something.

oh and it's gotta be said that Plemons shouldn't have been nominated for this, and his nom looks even worse given Olsen's snub. I think the general disaffectedness of his acting was intentional up to a point, I mean one character even makes a remark about how frustrating it is, but he did too good a job lol, because Allan's lack of emotion IS really frustrating. At every step it feels like he's underselling it. It feels more like boredom than emotional paralysis. I'm typically a huge fan of Plemons' understated acting but here it plays like sleepwalking.
