What a miserable weekend. Okay for Mike, Cabin's drop was expected, because WOM was very poor from those who actually saw it, but Brady's is equally bad too, given it's target demographic.

This weekend is uh... certainly not great. Gotta love that WB couldn't release Magic Mike 3 on 3,000 screens properly, though.

That Knock at the Cabin is Shyamalan’s CPA coming to advise him to stop spending his own money on these films.

That Knock at the Cabin is Shyamalan’s CPA coming to advise him to stop spending his own money on these films. Then he’d have to cede creative control, and I think he’s way past that point. The Last Airbender torched his studio clout so thoroughly, so he can’t command those $70 million dollar budgets he used to have, and it took Will Smith‘s vanity to get him back into it. So he doesn’t get those big budgets anymore, but he gets full control over his movies, and he doesn’t spend that much on them to begin with, so it’s not like he’s burning money.

Plus, all his movies since After Earth have been quite successful. Even if Knock at the Cabin fails to make its money back theatrically, it will still be close enough that all VOD/home media sales and TV/streaming deals will put it in the black. M. Night is doing a great job navigating his career.

Y’all made some great points, I’m just wondering what his box office ceiling is right now? Knock at the Cabin probably won’t reach $100 million WW. If he continues making movies at the $20 million budget, then after everything is accounted for he can make a profit. More importantly he has full creative control on his projects which is definitely a nice luxury. I’m curious what percentage of the budget he’s putting his own money into.

It's kind of crazy that the very top of all-time WW Box Office Grosses is Cameron's personal sandbox.
