Critic Top Ten ListsI have to say, I'm surprised at Nope's placement. This list will take a few months to shape up. So the journey begins for Maverick.

Well we know highbrow critics love Nope, considering its placement on the Cahiers list.
If I remember correctly, Us finished in the Top 10 back in 2019.

I guess I was surprised it would be at number two. All three of his movies have made the list in its respective year, that's pretty impressive.

I think another reason why Peele's movies do so well at year end lists because they usually improve on second viewing. Though I actually like Us less now than when I first saw it but that is just me.

You're probably right. I don't like 3rd act of Us. I do like Nope though. I think it is a better movie.

So far so good for Nope and Top Gun: Maverick. Had a feeling those two films would show up on a lot of year-end critics lists considering the discourse around those films during the summer season. Top Gun: Maverick for its phenomenal box-office performance and Nope around its themes, meanings, and debate analysis. Peele is a critics fave auteur currently and he's also bolstered that his films make money at the box office.

His three films have been both critical darlings and box office winners. All three films made over 100 mil domestically and that is a hard thing to do. Even golden child Chazelle ( in his head) hasn't been able to do that.

I can actually relate to this Nope reevaluation (not that is was bashed when it came out, of course) - even I find myself liking it more and more with time.

I hate Spielberg fanboys.- You hate me, Hugo? Not you. Critics hard core fans. Because you cannot be a critic and a hard core fan at the same time. The last Spielberg great movie was Lincoln. Even that wasnt at his top 5.

I think the first time you watch it you can take it at face value as a really cool alien movie but on each rewatch you kind of see what it’s really about.
