Thus tying the most times with Katharine Hepburn? I have no opinion on it, but I want to know others.

Hard to say, really. Streep's longevity and nomination tally makes her the odds-on favourite of the three-timers club to hit the stage a fourth time, but I do wonder if the "It's time!" narrative that surrounded her third win might have somewhat soured voters into wanting to anoint her again. I think if she does win again, it has to be either a.) undeniable, b.) in a major Best Picture contender, or c.) an extraordinarily weak field.
It is worth noting that Meryl is in the worst nomination drought of her career right now (she hasn't been nominated since 2017), and that can either work in her favor (the idea that voters might've taken her for granted) or it might be a sign voters might finally be disenchanted with her. It's not like she hasn't been working since The Post, after all.
I dunno, I guess I'll lean towards yes for now, but her age is working against her and Hepburn had 15+ years between her third and fourth wins for people to rally around her, and had a very strong film that had a winning narrative built in for Fonda already, and she benefited from that. I think for a fourth win, Meryl needs all the stars to align. She needs a Nomadland.

Well I think she certainly "could" but I don't think she will because the Academy in this current version has shown themselves unlikely to reward based on a narrative like hers - which would be "she's the best - so she deserves 4" - which of course is an absolutely stupid narrative anyway since arguably the most skilled actors (especially) and actresses do not necessarily have the most Oscars....
I mean - this Academy didn't reward Close, they didn't reward Boseman - and he was freakin dead - they instead voted on what they felt was merit (or they were racist - nah, just kidding).....they didn't nod Cooper for 2 BP nominees etc ......I think she can get nodded but winning is tricky at 73+....
I would say rather in the next 20 years so many people will have won 3 Oscars - and many more people will have achieved 9-10 career acting nominations that it will be a kind of mess .......as a metric for "how great" an actor / actress is or "was" the Oscar is already devalued and will be a giant clusterfuck moving forward .....I think we are on the cusp of the Acting Triple Crown being seen as "more impressive" than Oscar wins actually......but that's still some years away......
So I'd lean towards "No" for Streep ....but she's never one to count out obviously......

Well all it takes is one great part, but at the moment I'd say no. She was perceived as being overdue for The Iron Lady, it had been 30 years and a bunch of nominations and a lot of people thought she should have already got a third one for Adaptation or Doubt. That's not really the case now, since then she's just done old lady stuff and "look it's Meryl Streep!" supporting roles in prestige movies. The Post is really the only thing she's done lately that I could on any level imagine her picking up a 4th Oscar for. Seems like she's just acting for fun now. Which she has every right to do, she's had maybe the greatest acting career of all time.
