I can't create threads in Politics anymore? So, I have been fascinated by mancatchers ever since I first learned about them around a year or two ago. For those not in the know, a mancatcher is a large pole with a crescent moon shape on the end, used to capture and subdue a dangerous person without lethal force. Known primarily as a tool used in Japan in centuries past, versions of "stick with with a grabby bit on the end" have been used in many cultures for a very long time. In China and Japan, these are, near as I can tell, common tools for police to use against people that are either wielding a knife or unarmed but otherwise dangerous to themselves or others. So my thought is: Should police in the United States (or other nations) add mancatchers to their arsenals? As a video I just watched posited, it is likely that they are far less dangerous than tasers, and seeing as how almost all cops work in pairs AT LEAST, this could be a helpful alternative. For someone on drugs, these could be used to keep someone restrained until they can be safely handcuffed, as opposed to kneeling on a man's neck. Thoughts? I rarely get to see them used and it is hard to judge the efficacy of the weapons, but to my eyes they seem like viable non-lethal alternatives to pumping someone full of electricity.
