Way below projections for both, Amsterdam in particular is looking to be a big old bomb. Feels like karma for O. Russell, but also this will be his first certified box office calamity.

Imagine being David O. Russell and casting half of Hollywood in your big Oscar player, only to get beaten out by Lyle the fucking Crocodile.
Delicious karma.

I just watched the trailer for Lyle, and if Javier Bardem doesn't get an Oscar nod for whatever he is doing, I'm gonna boycott the telecast

Featuring appearances from Joe Pesci, Steve Martin, Camila Cabello, Mads Mikkelson, Clive Owen, Ellen Burstyn, Juliette Lewis, Kevin Hart, Bella Thorne, and Jared Leto - Some marketing department somewhere, probably

I’m still seeing Amsterdam, but honestly, the cast list always looked like one of those fucking SNL parodies, or one of those Blue Sky movies that dramatically read out EVERY big name in the cast.

Amsterdam's budget is $80m. Gonna be an uphill task given the poor reviews.

Not great for Lyle, and poor for Amsterdam. The story of the weekend is Smile, though. Gonna drop less then 30%. We've got a genuine WOM hit, and Paramount continues to be on a roll.

That is impressive for Smile. I didn't know lead is Kevin Bacon's daughter.

Interesting year for horror...... as others have noted, lotta ip projects are straight to streamers (Hellraiser, Halloween Ends, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Orphan 2, Firestarter) and originals are thriving.... especially right now this Smile/Barbarian. When was the last time we had two horrors in theaters, both originals, feature debuts, and making bank? They both had different and successful strategic marketing - that might be studio-studied going forward? My audience liked Barbarian better, I'd say (and I'd say it's the better movie, too). But I'd watch Smile 2 - and Paramount ain't shy about sequels - starring Kyle Gallner of course.

Dismal opening for Amsterdam. The marketing for this has been non existent. I guess its intentional on the studio's part as they might have not wanted the bad press due to DOR.
