This project was hinted about in WeGotThisCovered last year with the plot...........: A schlubby professor who never made it becomes an overnight celebrity after appearing in every person on Earth's dreams.
Also, Adam Sandler was up for the part originally.
Interesting setup for sure....... and more comic notches coming Cage's way.
By my count for Comedy, he has 8 or 9 very good, very funny perfs.... that's more than almost every other actor at or around his level.

I daresay there isn't an actor alive who has traversed so wide an emotional range throughout his career, from the zany pseudo-spoof to the most harrowing depths of tragedy. And the man sometimes does all of it in the same project. But yeah, Cage in an Aster film would be a match made in heaven/hell. I hope this is a stepping stone for him to give Cage a Hereditary-level part and have him go to town on it.

And the man sometimes does all of it in the same project. Does it matter if half the time, he's fucking terrible? I get his cult appeal, but plenty of actors have Cage's hit and hope approach, and few people try to pretend a lot of their performances aren't trash (ie Jared Leto). Cage is talented, but he's not a disciplined thespian and very often a HAM (hams tend to be good at comedy. It comes easy to them), even in drama. I often look at Cage as the best example of why talented actors should have done stage training. As someone only steeped in film, Cage never felt the need to discipline his approach and that's why he's got a hodgepodge body of work where much of his audience think he's an overrated ham, and a much smaller percentage treat him like a genius, despite his inconsistency .

The word out of TIFF is this is pretty great. I've seen a few Beau Is Afraid comparisons.

this looks so freaking good. One of my most anticipated for the rest of the year and looks like it could be Cage's most interesting perf since Adaptation. Can't wait!
