..................or just some ones you wished people liked as much as you do......... * The Humpers - Positively Sick On 4th Street (1993) - How underrated is this 15 song (!?!) piece of Anti-Art? Well I only rated it a 7 + / 10 when I reviewed it on MAR .......but it's better than that and almost defies a rating anyway....... it corresponds directly with your blood alcohol level. It is a better album than anything The Dead Boys ever made for one thing .........at its best it's in the line of The Stooges and Dolls / Heartbreakers - not THAT good but this is legit dangerous stuff which takes deeply antisocial subject matter as a mere a starting point. One of the most lethal sounding and authentically scuzzy feeling albums of the last 35 years - if that's your thing I mean - and you know who you are .......... If they had pulled this off twice they'd have a bigger rep - but each subsequent release was a bit weaker......... This one though is a genuine classic of American delinquent fringe culture....... * Pavement - Brighten The Corners (1997) - Underrated because it came between two difficult ones - but album #4 is better, smarter, funnier and more accessible than albums #3 or #5. One of 1997's best......if you weren't too busy replaying '92 & '94 .......... * The Clash - Give 'Em Enough Rope (1978) - Came between 2 all-timers but it's better than Sandinista! or anything post-London Calling - yeah I said it - a classic in its own right just less of one than London Calling and the debut......but come on be reasonable. * The Pulsars - Pulsars (1997) - Another of 1997's best - I don't know anyone who's heard it who doesn't love it........and that's the truth......and I can't think of many records like it................ If you know......then you know.............. * Wipers - Over The Edge (1983) - Some find it too simple or the songs too short compared with their other work - I find it kind of perfect in its brevity myself .......but the only people who rate this record anyway are people into Wipers in the first place...........deserves a bigger, more diverse audience and bigger praise too.

Guns N' Roses - Chinese Democracy
It was never going to live up to expectations given its long production, but I still think it’s a pretty solid album that people like to shit on for some reason or other... yeah you can call it “overproduced,” and it is a little much at times, but I dig its overall aesthetic – the textural layering, the harmonies, and I like its eclecticism and its everything-but-the-kitchen-sink approach. It can sometimes be overwrought, strident, cheesy, and the various stylistic elements don’t always mesh, but I can’t help but admire how unrestrained it is and how it swings for the fences, even if it’s not always completely successful.

Relapse. Em himself doesn't even like it.

Relapse. Em himself doesn't even like it. I love stuff like this in general - when a band I like (or an actor, etc) loves or hates their own work.......it's kind of revealing (or can be) about what they were going through when they actually created the work itself ......etc

Amnesiac is my favorite Radiohead album, but most people seem to have it ranked like 5th or something.
Goats Head Soup is kinda synonymous with underrated album, right?
Adventure by Television is rock solid. All these albums only got their reputation because of what came before or after, sometimes it takes us awhile to just appreciate something for what it is.

Relapse. Em himself doesn't even like it. I'd say this album is way better than Encore and also much better than everything that he released afterwards as well, so it's in his top 5 for sure. It also has 2 of his best songs in it (Beautiful and Undergroud). Now, it also features some crap songs, but you can say that for every single release of his (apart from The Marshall Mathers LP).

Amorphis - Am Universum - This is widely considered as one of the bands worst albums (wtf ), but it's not only one of their best for me, but also one of the best rock albums of the 21st century. Maybe it's the fact that a Metal band (and one of the most consistent) released an alternative/prog rock album that features more saxophone solos than guitar solos, that this isn't liked among it's fanbase, but, for me it's an absolutely fantastic release. pacinoyes highly recommended. Battlelore - Sword's Song - I'm not ashamed to say that I absolutely love this album. Tolkien based power metal at it's finest. Yeah, it's basic and simplistic, but it's just beautiful, addictive music.

I actually think Tool's latest, Fear Innoculum, is rather underrated. Some of the songs certainly could have been a few minutes shorter, but in all of the real tracks there are immense qualities. It might also contain the bands finest song yet in Pneuma. Far from a perfect album it is, but it has gotten a bit too much criticism I think.

Dinosaur Jr.'s You're Living All Over Me and Guitar Romantic by Exploding Hearts are my two favorite albums of all time which would not be the case for too many people so I have to say those.
Arthur by The Kinks is probably underrated, it's my favorite from them and probably a top ten rock album of all time for me whereas I think most people just view it as good and behind Village Green Preservation Society and Something Else.
The Human Menagerie by Cockney Rebel.
Ocean Rain by Echo and the Bunnymen is probably a bit underrated. Get the feeling a lot of people view it as just a good 4/5 star album.
For Pavement I would say Wowee Zowee which a lot of people think sucks and killed the band but it's my favorite from them and the only of their albums I really like, the others are just scattered good songs to me. Love the eclecticism and personality it has with all the genre parodies.
Definitely agree on Adventure by Television. To be honest prefer it to Marquee Moon top to bottom which kind of just has the classic title track. One of my favorite album covers of all time too. IDK what it is about the combo of that font with the deep red, it just goes with the music.

I agree with mentions of the Television, Clash and Wipers albums
I’ll mention Entertainment! by Gang of Four. Underrated probably isn’t the right word as it is very highly regarded, particularly among the musicians it influenced but it got a whopping 1 vote on our 70s albums poll! Now part of that is my fault, I only got around to this album more recently. Hell I’ve still never even listened to the album the whole way through, just all the songs individually as Spotify put them on my end of playlist radio stations - same with The Damned’s Machine Gun Etiquette. These two would’ve been 5/6 on my ballot today. Jesus fuck, 1979 must’ve been the best year in music history, half of my current top 10 of the decade came out that year. But back to the Gang of Four album - it’s definitely underrated on MAR. I’ll even mention their follow up, Solid Gold, which is probably a better answer for truly being underrated
Also, the first two PiL albums. This comment probably belongs on the unpopular music opinions thread but those 2 PiL albums are better than anything Johnny Rotten did with the Sex Pistols. PiL is the band he should be remembered for. Was it more impactful? Definitely not but the PiL stuff was of higher quality imo
