I'd watch anything with Lizzy Caplan in it. Kathy Bates loved her Annie Wilkes in "Castle Rock", wonder what Glenn will think about this one.

I'm assuming that in our post-MeToo world, this version will take the route of the original ending that Glenn Close fought so hard for... It will be interesting to see the fallout more from Alex's POV.

Yeah,I'm really interested in seeing a more measured, maybe more sympathetic look at the character and I think they'll do that with this show. The film was very much from the perspective of the man,he was the victim, she was the villain,it wasn't very nuanced in that respect.

There were a number of things I didn't like about the original but the worst offender was the heteronormative family values of it all. Presenting Alex as this sexually predatory Jezebel inserting herself into this good ole' American family and corrupting the patriarch. I truly, truly dislike erotic films that present as tawdry but instead are very sexually conservative. Unfaithful and End of the Affair struck me the same way. Really takes the fun out of your sexy movie. Basic Instinct for me. It's still provocative in the 2020s!

I enjoy the film for what it is but I agree, Fatal Attraction is the movie of its times. it's very specifically a product of Reagan-era "you have responsibilities to your nuclear family". This is a good chance to re-imagine the story with more depth to characters. I hope they won't shy away to make it more provocative and sexy also. They already have a great cast to pull all those. Lots of potential here, I hope they won't blow it.

The fact that this is being written and directed by two women is reason to get a little interested, the fact Alex Forrest is now being played by someone you can actually imagine wanting to fuck at first sight definitely helps (though they seemed to have transferred that 'WTF is this casting' energy over to Dan. I know she's insane, but come on. You couldn't have at least got Dawson?), and Caplan is always worth watching and looks pretty good based on what little we can see here...
But it's going to need a lot more than that much mythologized original ending to save it and get it closer to its Madame Butterfly wannabe aspirations, and the fact that the two women it has been trusted to are basically hacks is not exactly anything to get excited over.
That based on this minute of footage this looks more like the kind of tacky trash you'd associate with a place called CBS All Access and less like the prestige Taylor Sheridan television that Paramount+ has been flooded with should maybe be no surprise.

Lizzy is channeling 80s Debra Winger here.

I’ve always felt this way about Close in the movie. As great as she is, and she’s indeed great, I still feel she’s miscast and never bought into Douglas wanting to have an affair with her.

Just out of curiosity, what have you guys been hearing in the "real world" about this? Invariably, I've gotten some version of... "Well, I definitely want to see it, but I just can't picture anyone but Glenn in this role." One of my colleagues who I'm closest with was so funny... She said, "Where are the big blonde curls?! This is really throwing me."

I agree. I’d be shocked if a single one of my friends, co-workers, or neighbors were aware of the existence of this.

I really rate Lizzy Caplan and I'm dying to see what she does with this role.I think this version will maybe skew a little more sympathetically to her character. As someone who loves the film,I'm looking forward to see them go deeper into her background/motivations etc.

Wait, did Tyler self-delete because of a genuine comment I made, with no intended vitriol behind it?? Okay then.
I genuinely like you Tyler, but you seem to have a hard time reckoning with the fact that some people don't like the things you like, or run in the same kind of circles.

I think this type of show only becomes popular if it goes viral. I don't think too many people know about it.

Also, love Amanda Peet but wish they cast a more age-balanced POC in the Anne Archer role, e.g., Danielle Deadwyler
