A trio of new titles. Unfortunately it looks like none of them will really break-out. Hoping The Northman doesn't collapse, though.

So much for my thought on The Northman being Skarsgard's Glaidator. At least it got great reviews though.

Damn, was sort of hoping Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent would blow up and become a hit.

Unfortunately it feels like Gladiator would have struggled to become a huge hit these days, even if they managed to still pull it off. I dunno. I think Alexander Skarsgard is a talented actor and a helluva a physical specimen. But Russell Crowe was a generational talent and a born movie star. However good Skarsgard is in this movie, he isn't and never will be Russell Crowe. His peak was short, but it's up there with the best of them. And Robert Eggers is not Ridley Scott, who has produced many commercial hits in his career, and when he has the right ingredients (a movie star in the asendence like Crowe) and a story that evoked the bygone epic majesty of Spartacus, he can still deliver a hit. It's hard to say if Gladiator couldn't still be huge today, imho.

Since everything is IP based, actors can be bulky, but they don't need to be imposing or threatening or anything of that ilk for a specific role. Skarsgard gives me that same sort of vibe in The Northman, but in a much different way.

Kinda surprised that The Northman got a 'B' Cinemascore.

Kinda surprised that The Northman got a 'B' Cinemascore. That's actually pretty good for a movie of that ilk. Strange and or unusual movies have often had a history of low cinemascores, even if legs aren't terrible. I think it speaks to the fact that the marketing was more honest then say an A24 film, because the film actually has a good amount of action and violence.

Fantastic Beasts 3 just flat-out dropping dead and Everything Everywhere holding incredibly strong despite tough competition is awesome to see.

Bit of a whiff of a weekend in general. The Bad Guys didn't do too bad (lack of new family competition helps), but The Northman was a bit frontloaded. At least Everything Everywhere continues to do great, though.
