21 nominations Meryl Streep
8 nominations Cate Blanchett Glenn Close Judi Dench
7 nominations Jane Fonda Kate Winslet
6 nominations Amy Adams Ellen Burstyn Jessica Lange Frances McDormand Vanessa Redgrave Maggie Smith Sissy Spacek
5 nominations Nicole Kidman Shirley MacLaine Julianne Moore Susan Sarandon Michelle Williams
----
No doubt Blanchett, Kidman, and Winslet will only continue to rise... Who are you most expecting to join this list? Jennifer Lawrence? Saoirse Ronan?

Looking at actresses with 4 nominations...
Jodie Foster Glenda Jackson Renee Zellweger Kathy Bates Julie Christie Penelope Cruz Viola Davis Holly Hunter Jennifer Lawrence Diane Keaton Helen Mirren Julia Roberts Emma Thompson Joanne Woodward Jane Alexander Annette Bening Saoirse Ronan Michelle Williams
I would say most of them have more than a chance to receive a 5th nod. The first amongst them would likely be Viola Davis as she's has something baity coming out this year. Michelle Williams and Jennifer Lawrence are very likely too.

I think Winslet will end up with the second-most nominations, but only like 12 to Streep's 24-25 or whatever. I think Blanchett will end up with 10 or 11. Kidman with 8 or 9. Saoirse could pass Winslet's final total, or end up with only like 2 more than she has. Michelle Williams will get at least 5 more nominations if she lives into old age. Florence Pugh could go on a tear and end up with 8-16 nominations. Colman is a fad to me, though I like her; I don't see her continuing this Amy Adams-esque nomination luck for much longer beyond the Empire of Light Mendes movie.

In praising Michelle Williams - who I always say is the best American actress of her generation - she's almost Pacino-like - ie no Oscar when her "sorta older / younger peers" already have 1 (a diverse list: Portman, Stone, Olson, Witherspoon, Chastain.......Lawrence, though she's way younger) and she's "quirky" like him in that she's almost by default considered better than her place in the industry and held in crazy esteem whether she's nodded or not.......... I always say you can argue her as someone who could have ~ 3 more nods than she actually has - and as someone with a lot of "that project fell through" things......she does theater and TV, she's a Triple Crown threat etc
I don't know much but I can prettty much guarantee a nod for her this year .......and maybe a win, and if that happens I could see her being nodded a whole lot ......sort of like Nicole Kidman and Blanchett may be in the upcoming years too (?) - where they may get those "veteran nods" almost automatically...... she's an actor's actor - I see her getting Close like career numbers / stature across all mediums if she wants it tbh.

I like Michelle alot, but I wonder about her sometimes. She can seem untethered in a way that lends itself to supporting parts almost exclusively. Like some part of her is "almost" Vivien Leigh, but another part is Frances O'Connor or something. It's hard to describe.

Like I said before, Michelle Williams' problem is that nearly all her major roles can be described as "depressed woman". That limits her possibilities a lot.

Definitely JLaw and Ronan will join the list. It’s insane how many nominations they’ve racked up at such a young age. Jlaw is only 32 and has a win and 3 noms 🤯
I think Robbie will get more noms as her career progresses

Always impressive to see Kate Winslet so high when you realize that she has only been nominated once during the last 14 years. It also tells you that you never know how things may turn for an actor when it comes for oscars nominations...Saoirse Ronan could get only one more and Judi Dench two more.

I'll expect the other Emma to join. Also down the road I will expect Anya-Taylor and Margot Robbie to be a threat to appear on this list. Other than Lawrence and Ronan of course.

pacinoyes - Perhaps this year we can bump Blanchett up to the 8 nominations group, and Michelle Williams will join the list with her 5th nomination? Any other possible movements I'm missing? Viola Davis?

I can't stand that Close doesn't have an Oscar. I'm convinced that the Oscars just won't ever give it to her. Well, fuck them.

Close is a victim of not being in strong (or even "perceived as very good") movies ever in her later period. Damages is like The Godfather compared to these random dramas. And why this obsession with Oscars, number of Oscars, etc.? I don't think Kubrick or Hitchcock or Lynch a lesser director than Ron Howard, or Tilda's only one-time win meaning she's a lesser actress than Frances Surly McDormand.

One or two more nominations max.

Meryl having that many nominations 🙄
It’s really a self-fulfilling prophecy. “Meryl will get nominated bc it’s Meryl” and that’s exactly what happens. So many of her nominations are filler noms

Michelle Williams is climbing. And my girl will continue to rack them up, I believe. I see her representing American actresses as the respected go-to for dramatic roles for years to come. It's not stopping. Move aside, Brits and poor Glenn Close.

Potentially moving up/entering this list in 2023...
Annette Bening (5) Penélope Cruz (5) Jodie Foster (5) Julianne Moore (6)
Longer shots...
Viola Davis (5) Helen Mirren (5) Kate Winslet (8)
Any others I'm missing?

I think only Moore gets an extra nom this year. The others are all long shots.
