Just got back from a long and grueling business trip. Man, it's good to be home.

I'm thinking of visiting New York for the second time in my life. Last time was Christmas 2016.
The way I see it, if I decide to do it, I'll travel either Christmas or May. What you guys think? Is it better to see Christmas-time NYC (again) or in spring (when the weather will may be better for tourism)???

Having sort of a rough time so pardon the venting and embarrassing overly-personal backstory. May regret posting this tomorrow but fuck that, I shouldn't have to.
Currently sitting at my lovely local library, listening to "I Get Overwhelmed" on Spotify and it's hitting a bit too close to home. I always come here to get work done because I'm too easy distracted at home to get anything done. Past several months I've been applying to a few different entry-level jobs with no luck so I'm trying to [finally] write a resume so I can hopefully get a hotel job. Never wrote one before because I haven't done enough to warrant it--didn't finish my degree, don't have much serious work experience, have really long employment gaps--yeah, my professional life is in the toilet. That was always my excuse for not writing one anyways, it cuts a bit deeper than that.
See, the prospect of writing it has always been a source of major anxiety and existential dread for me. Writing a self-promotional overview of personal accomplishments means confronting my self-esteem/self-confidence issues, my underlying guilt and shame about wasting the last five years of my life, and the fact that I don't feel like I've accomplished much at all since graduating highschool. A couple years ago after landing a shitty job at Wendy's (at least it was a job) and leaving therapy I thought I could say all of that was behind me and I could move on with my life, but after being completely miserable/depressed at Wendy's the point of quitting without having a contingency plan (I did try pursuing a Target job but didn't make it past the interview) I've discovered that it still lingers like a specter. Fuck. I'm running out of money FAST and still have those college loans to worry about (thankfully a small total but a monthly payment is a monthly payment) and no success on the job hunt. Fuck fuck fuck.
Anyways, that's what puts me now in the library. Trying to write this goddamn resume. I'm going with a functional/skill-based approach because that's really all I have to offer. Annnnnd I just have no idea how to start. Now that I've [presumably] gotten over that mental block and have committed to doing it, the process is more overwhelming than I imagined. That's mostly because my specific skill-set combined with lack of experience and employment gaps requires something especially curated/tailored and I can't find a single template that feels like the right way for me to express what I have to offer. Not a single damn one. And the idea of writing one from scratch and figuring out all the formatting is equally if not more overwhelming. I've been sitting here for two and half hours with nothing to show for it.
so that's the depressing story of me at my local library trying not to fold in on myself. Ironically enough, the next song in my Spotify playlist was Ellie Goulding's "Anything Could Happen," so maybe everything will be all right?
Also, as always when I come to the library to get work done I check out a couple movies to take home with me as a treat. Today it's The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and Volver, and maybe a third, I don't know yet. I've been eyeing that Criterion edition of Silence of the Lambs for its commentary featuring Demme/Foster/Hopkins. Hard to pass up, right?

Tommen_SapersteinAs you are looking for an hotel job, try and ask the user sterling archer for suggestions. He's an hotel manager or something if I don't remember badly.

Hope everything gets sorted out soon for you, Joe! The struggle will always be there but you'll do great! I suggest you use 'Overleaf' for resume formatting and stuff. Look at it, might be useful. β€οΈ

awww thanks for the encouragements/advice guys Vicedthat's a long story and there are plenty of reasons/excuses I could give, but the best one is that I don't have the money. Also don't think I should need it just for an minimum wage/entry-level job, and I don't know what I'd use it for. I was getting a BA in communications which is ridiculously broad and mostly seems to be unhelpful. It might've gotten me a couple more interview invites but that's it. If I can land a front desk job and find that I like it and want to go further in that industry what I'd probably do is try to get a hospitality or hotel management degree. theycallmemrfishthat is remarkably helpful. Much more than those really long and vague guides and articles.

Iβm probably gonna have to prep for a hurricane this weekend, one that I literally canβt afford to have hit. Well, thatβs Florida for ya. Stay safe, fellow statesmen.

Just learned the other day that Matthew McConaughey officially joined the RTF faculty at UT Austin, where I go to school. Because I'm not an RTF major, I was not previously aware that he had been co-teaching a film class as a visiting instructor for the last few years (I only knew that he lives in Austin, sometimes shows up to UT football games, and apparently goes to the same Sport Clips where I get my haircut ) Unfortunately, I can't sign up for the class because it's restricted to majors only...

We're now entering that magical time of the year when it gets so fucking warm we step out of the shower and feel like taking another one only 15 minutes later. Hooray.

Burger King ads are promising that the meatless Whopper tastes like real beef. Which really would be pretty remarkable considering the regular Whopper doesn't taste like real beef.

Halloween Horror Nights starts tonight! Another night back, and fun was had. Iβve gotten unlucky with the Ghostbusters house, because Iβve gotten several bad walkthroughs with actors or effects missing. On the other hand, the Universal Monsters house was on fβin point!

Space travel and NASA arenβt really of interest to me, but visiting the Kennedy Space Center over the weekend - and the borderline Disney/Universal-esque theming in some exhibits - was pretty cool.
