Just wondering where people come down on this - Prince Harry & Meghan joined in with some comments. Do you think more artists will follow? Would you boycott Spotify over Joe Rogan? (CNN)Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have expressed their "concerns" to Spotify over Covid-19 misinformation on the platform, joining a growing group of personalities putting pressure on the streaming service amid a dispute about Joe Rogan's controversial podcast.
The pair first raised the issue last April and have continued to urge Spotify to root out misinformation, a spokesperson for their foundation, Archewell, said on Sunday.

Well I would imagine Rogan (unfortunately) brings in a lot more people to Spotify than Neil Young or Joni Mitchell, so this isn't going to move them unless big time modern pop stars start doing it. This also has no impact on Young and Mitchell as I would imagine most their income at this point comes from touring with older fans coming to see them play old material. Modern artists don't make much from streaming either but they need new hits to stay relevant and keep their young fanbase engaged and Spotify is the way most young people listen to music. A contemporary artist leaving Spotify would be akin to a radio ban back in the day so I don't see any of them doing this.
Anyway, Spotify caving here would be a very bad president, that you're just going to let outside actors bully you into taking someone down because they don't like the content. Most the people supporting this would have a completely different opinion if it was a bunch of popular country singers plus Kanye West and other somewhat right-leaning musicians trying to use their leverage to get Spotify to take down left wing podcasts.
The argument that Rogan "makes people unsafe" is to me also very disingenuous. I doubt there is one single person who was 100% comfortable with vaccines and all set to get one and then decided not to because Joe Rogan said you shouldn't. Rogan's audience is natural living quacks, people who are afraid of needles exc who are just using him as cognitive dissonance. He's not particularly helpful, but I'm sure I could find a on of podcasts on Spotify that say unhelpful things that are under no threat of being deplatformed. Short of trying to directly incite violence Spotify should not be regulating the content of their podcasts. Hosting does not equate an endorsement. Really strange how we suddenly have all these people on the left side of the political spectrum who now want major corporations to be able to tell everyone what you can say on the internet.

Joe Rogan is massively popular in the podcasting world with this generation, so of course, they have more incentive to keep him over Neil Young and Joni Mitchell. I don't believe major contemporary artists are going to follow because they don't want to lose all the streaming revenue that would come with losing Spotify.
Neil Young is set already (sans streaming $$) with $200 mil (if reports are accurate). This was never about money for him. He's a very passionate, principled man who just doesn't want to share a platform with Joe Rogan because (and perhaps living his life with his left side permanently damaged due to polio is one of the contributing factors) he sees him as a danger to the public. Simple as that. Check his shenanigans with his record company in the 80s. This man always makes a point to do what he feels strongly about - even if it's head-scratching. That said, I think what will happen is they might ask Rogan to tone down all the vaccine rhetoric on his show - and invite less quacks. Or they'll just wait for things to quiet down.
