Fight me!
Well I've talked a lot about him in the past - wildly overrated, yet can't possibly be overrated, artist of the 70s, but he doesn't have a single album I'd put in the
top 100 (ONE HUNDRED) of the 70s......Punk Rock would have been impossible without him ..........but he was the lead singer in
"Tin Machine" for Fncksake........let's dive in!
Best Album - Um, I guess
Ziggy but tbh it's ChangesBowie - yeah, I went with the comp - but even that fncks it up by ending with
Blue Jean - UGH .........can I pick
The Slider or Electric Warrior......ok then, moving on......
Worst Album - Any after Let's Dance .........except Blackstar which is a little better than anything after Let's Dance
Most Overrated: The worst parts of Hunky Dory (but not the best parts!), and
Blackstar (um), some of Low which is also the best of his Berlin Trilogy......see how this works?
Most Underrated: He doesn't have those .........but
Station To Station and
Scary Monsters are better than the big ones that came after them
Best Song: Changes (duh).......... and Ashes To Ashes
Worst Album & Worst Song: Let's not be mean people but come on....... Tin Machine made
2 whole albums with lots of songs Best Trick: The entire world wrote him off as an orange haired sexual deviant from planet bizarro and eventually celebrated him for being an orange haired sexual deviant from planet bizzaro ........and those were like well adjusted suburban soccer moms who celebrated him......how'd he win over THAT demographic?
He is the definition of an "outsider" who eventually wins over everyone by being exactly true to himself (was he?) and his "estate" sells his catalog for
250 million - now THAT'S Rock and Roll baby
.........he changed so much, observed culture and Rock and Roll with all the "authenticity" of a high class call girl whose prices fluctuates wildly.......he was literally without a parallel until
Prince......and Prince was something else from him too anyway (he could play guitar for one thing.....)
Best Trick II : Convincing
Iggy, Ian Hunter and Lou Reed that they were great and they should all be friends though that they were not necessarily greater THAN HIM
Best Trick III - Writing one of his very best songs -
"All The Young Dudes" - giving it away (!) and where he disses T. Rex (see above ^) and then convinced his friend
Marc Bolan that he wasn't dissing him in that song, hadn't ripped him off and hey they should still be friends.....
pacinoyes' Absolute Favorite Bowie Moment - In 19-- Performance of "Cracked Actor" - One of the (too many) times I saw him live he was doing
"Cracked Actor" - one of his best songs .....and the spotlight was off him.......he went off script! (which he never did) and said into the mic (I'm pretty sure) "should I just stand in the middle?"
Happy Birthday Legend I know you are partying in the afterlife with Bing Crosby and Dinah Shore......
