Please, share your thoughts on this English Rose. It's so early in her career, but it honestly seems like there's nothing she can't do, right? P.S.: She cites Julie Walters, Helen Mirren, Glenn Close, and Charlotte Rampling as her acting inspirations.

She's amazing on Killing Eve, even though the show was diminishing returns and Emerald Fennell fucked it up. World-class facial expressivity/general playfulness. Haven't seen her in anything else besides Rise of Skywalker, and I don't remember that movie at all, thank god. I don't really see her acting as being similar to those inspirations you mention (not that it has to be for them to be inspirations); maybe a bit of the Close from Fatal Attraction.

Not sure if you're into Tudor historical fiction at all, but she is excellent in The White Princess. Essie Davis plays her mom.

Bland
We'll see if she changes my opinion with the Ridley Scott movie, or beyond that.

I’ve only seen her in Killing Eve and thought she was great. Looking forward to watching her in 2 movies this year.

I said it once and I’ll say it again: she should’ve been cast as Abigail in The Favourite.

maybe a bit of the Close from Fatal Attraction. I could have seen Glenn Close in something like The Last Duel earlier on in her career, too. Really looking forward to Comer's performance there. I can't stop watching the trailer because of her - she's captivating.

Supporting Actress is certainly more competitive than the men’s category, but all the reviews I’ve seen of The Last Duel single her out, so I think she might be able to get in even though there’s a lot of contenders whose films are also unlikely to be nominated for Best Picture like Ann Dowd, Martha Plimpton, Marlee Matlin, Ruth Negga, etc.
Plus, at least TLD will be in play for it’s techs especially sound from what I’ve read so far, and since Adapted Screenplay turned out to be weaker after all despite my thinking it was going to be more competitive than Original, I think it still has a small chance to be nominated there.

Has any other actor increased their stature / reputation more off a single stage performance than Comer recently? Of the people hovering around the Triple Crown without winning it - Kline (might win in 2024 - first American male in 20 years ?!?), Rylance, Chastain, Comer etc. she's really jumped into that conversation in a big way......especially for someone not nodded for the award she's missing (Oscar?)

Comer may well be the Close of her generation, right?

Another point of trivia: If she goes on to win an Oscar and a film BAFTA, she and Helen Mirren will be the only actors to have both the American and British Triple Crowns. pacinoyes

A lot are hovering around for this too.............Rylance just needs an Emmy (and he was close last time) - and Dench (also needs just the Emmy) is particularly wtf-ish (multiple Emmy nods).........

pacinoyes - Similarly, Maggie Smith needs only the television BAFTA... Why in the world hasn't she won that, ibbi ?!?!

pacinoyes - Similarly, Maggie Smith needs only the television BAFTA... Why in the world hasn't she won that, ibbi ?!?! Too many old white women to award too few awards to go around. As for Jodie Comer, I love her with all my heart and soul, but nobody from that far north with that broad an accent can be referred to as an English Rose. English Skunk Cabbage would be more appropriate.

Totally irrelevant comment but I mistake her for Betty Gilpin.

I LOVE JODIE COMER!! I was so happy when she won the Tony, and it was her first stage play ever too. And she has no formal training? What??? Incredible!
She is one of two of the best actors under 35 (tied with Saoirse Ronan). Her talent leaves me in awe. Her work on Killing Eve especially seasons 1&2 literally made me go WOW. I can point to the exact scene where I was like “Damn she is special”
I hope she gets an Oscar one day, but even if she doesn’t, we all know she’s Oscar caliber. Btw, she deserved an Oscar nomination for The Last Duel. She should’ve taken Kristen Stewart’s spot
Can you tell I love her with all my heart? 😁❤️
