Anybody start watching this or seen the whole thing already? I just started and it is .............spectacular. This makes American "tough" drama look like kids stuff ........not sure it can keep it up but first episode was a knockout.........might not be everybody's cup of tea I guess, but the 2 performances are superb and movie worthy big time.........

Stephen Graham really deserves to be considered a generational top talent, and as much as I thought Pacino was the highlight of The Irishman, I wish I could see the alternate universe version where Marty made it with Graham as Hoffa. The man can easily portray Pesci-esque explosive violence (see his iconic Capone), but projects like this really show the staggering range and versatility he is capable of. This man should be in every movie.

I'm assuming this wasn't eligible for BAFTA's (I guess?) and has to wait a year but I wonder if one of them will win .....it's the performance of Sean Bean's life so far - and I know he's done some good stuff but this really impressed............. and he does this neat trick where he tries to process everything but can't exactly and then worries what message his puzzlement is sending and whether it makes him look weak......... Here's the trailer for anyone who's curious about it:

I posted about this in the Last Great Perfs thread! Strongly made, reminded me of the HBO prison stuff like OG, The Night Of...even in the color grading. Quite felt in its look at the give and take and defeat of prison, and the shame... How "What're you doing?" isn't asking How are you, it's asking Why are you here?
Career-best Sean Bean for sure. Lotta understated and devastating moments, like when he talks about being a teacher and being better earlier - "You just get ground down." He seems so small and weak throughout, you really feel for him. Graham is also great.... Love the way he carries himself "firm but fair" and how his eyes check off-screen characters. Very talented actor with a lot of range.

A fantastic, gritty miniseries that's also full of heart and compassion - I actually wish it had been a few episodes longer, as there was so much potential for further exploration of pretty much every character. Not a criticism of the show though, as it was close to perfect as it is. Totally agree this is Bean's best work I've seen - he was so, so real at every turn, and he had me welling up on several occasions. Stephen Graham is just phenomenal in everything he's in, I'd love for him to have a massive breakout into film as he deserves.

this was renewed last year but series 2 is going to be set in a new location with a new cast so unfortunately no more Bean or Graham.

I'd love to see Jared Harris and Sean Harris finally face off. This is said to be set in a female prison. In other news, 'The Responder' was brilliant and a second season is apparently coming, too, with Martin Freeman returning.

I did! Was really strong, emotional stuff. Powerful performances from these three women (particularly Ramsey - my first impression of her outside of Game of Thrones, and she was astonishing). The last episode in particular has some real gut punches as well as some beautiful moments of hope.
