In my view, they're two of the best modern directors, who generally make really memorable/moving films. I know they're not that comparable, indeed they have very different styles of filmmaking, but which Michael do you prefer? My pick is Haneke

Haneke, although I have more to see from both. The White Ribbon is considerably better than anything I've seen from Mann. You seen Collateral? I think it's his absolute best from what I've seen (and I even almost doubt he could make a better film). I would also vote Haneke btw. (mostly based on Cache and The White Ribbon, if anything from Mann matches that level, it's Collateral) even though I think I have seen a few more from Mann.

It's funny, I think Haneke's last 3 non-English language films are by far the best things he's ever done and while I'm actually a fan of Mann's recent output (Public Enemies and Blackhat included), none of it touches his "big 3" of the 90s. Though based just on Cache, The White Ribbon, and Amour, ultimately I'd go with Haneke.
