No order: She and DePac have the greatest list of co-stars in modern American film history imo - and Streep is one of those specific people like Pacino, Mirren to never really drop the ball opposite a huge co-star in a meaty role. She will go head to head with ANYONE and if you are not on your A game .....well She also is the only actor afaik to work the big 4 - Hoffman, Pacino, Nicholson, De Niro - list below and what it turned into for her awards wise. There's so many I left off here - it's astonishing ........ De Niro (Oscar nomination) Pacino (Emmy win) Nicholson (Oscar nomination) Hoffman (Oscar win)
Irons (Oscar nomination) PSH (Oscar nomination) Shirley MacLaine (Oscar nomination) Cher (Oscar nomination) Viola Davis (Oscar nomination) Diane Keaton (Just a Golden Globe nomination )

I was really considering Philip Seymour Hoffman and Shirley McClaine as well. Tucci is a less obvious choice, but I can see it. I discounted DeNiro because I personally thought they had negative chemistry in Falling In Love. Like that movie doesn't work because their romantic chemistry is so tepid. Streep generally has the best romantic chemistry with male actors who aren't anywhere near as talented as her (ie Eastwood, Redford). Maybe those guys aren't over thinking things. The Deer Hunter worked overall, but I don't think it was neccesarily because they had some amazing natural chemistry as actors (and no disrespect to Streep, but that movie stands out for Walken's work and DeNiro, with Streep more of a secondary thing).

That DeNiro argument is fine and fair. Honestly I only had him at #1 because he was the first name that automatically came to mind, and I thought they had a couple of good back and forths in The Deer Hunter. Tucci was obvious to me from the get-go though, and they had two movies ( Prada, Julie & Julia), where they were terrific together.

+1. Al Pacino. One of their best works ever but I don't rank it here as it was a TV project.

I posted these 10 below in this thread, but I guess she also has the best potential "first time big co-star matchup" this year with Phoenix, too right? She has like a DePac, Helen Mirren, Blanchett level of co-stars......... De Niro (Oscar nomination) Pacino (Emmy win) Nicholson (Oscar nomination) Hoffman (Oscar win)
Irons (Oscar nomination) PSH (Oscar nomination) Shirley MacLaine (Oscar nomination) Cher (Oscar nomination) Viola Davis (Oscar nomination) Diane Keaton (Just a Golden Globe nomination )

I was trying to balance the strength of the performance independently with how well they connected on screen. Did not include some very good performances (Keaton in Manhattan, Saoirse in Little Women) where they share no or minimal screentime. Yes, I know the top five are from two movies, but Doubt and Adaptation are so loaded with good acting that that's just the way it falls. Also 8 out of the 10 are men. I think it's a bit of the inverse of what we talked about with DDL where he tends to swallow all the spotlight opposite other men and is generous with women.

Just wanted to mention one of the late William Hurt's best performances from the middle period of his career in One True Thing.
