So the GOAT didn't appear as Mephisto on WandaVision so .........I didn't have to watch WandaVision I guess huh? For those of us going through (awesome) Call My Agent! withdrawals - this show could be a Call My Agent! production within that show - high concept, familiar French faces - and it's become my new thing - and the 2nd stupendous French show I've seen in 2021 already. Heck, that doesn't even count perennial French favorite Spiral which is the French The Wire in a way or will appeal to the same type of viewer. Starring Omar Sy - in a greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeat role - I'll write more about him later I'm sure - you see lots of familiar faces pop up (Ludivine Sagnier!) - the mystery is sharp and exceedingly well drawn - it's a lot of fun and adult entertainment. 5 of 10 episodes on Netflix now, last 5 later this year - you can blow through this real quick and go back and catch little things you may have missed or want to see again. Highly recommended .............Viva la France!

Three eps in.... Kinda fun, but very far-fetched without having to be (the whole jail bit made me scratch my head). It doesn't feel like anyone in the show exists in that world outside of their screentime and the writers keep stopping for exposition and then repeating reveals to make sure we get it. So a little wonky on the page but it's pretty slickly filmed so far and Omar Sy has charm.

Ok, finished episode 5 - which is by far the best episode and gives a cool backstory. Mattsby is right that it's far-fetched but to me, I love that - this is essentially a Superman or Batman "hero/villain" story that uses that element of excitement in old novels as the comics of their day. You could do this same thing this show does with Les Misérables - but it wouldn't be as fun I reckon! Some of the stuff you just have to go along with and it is ridiculously coincidental also One of the things I really love is how deep they layer a theme - like there's 3 people reading or re-reading Lupin here for different purposes - one to commit crime, one to love reading, one to prevent crime - father, son, cop......the ending of episode 5 is the fiction mixed into the reality of the plot. Sort of like in Cruising where you have a cop night at the gay bar while the detective is a cop at a gay bar ......... .........um, well this is sort of like that!

Show is back for last 5 episodes.........I'm only on episode 6 right now .......and it's starting to become convoluted in ways that are not only implausible but "time wise" impossible to pull off too..............but it's still a lot of fun.........and cinematic too.......it feels like a big action movie and there's a lot of James Bond to the way things play out here. One of the most fun things so far in 2021 for me The 2 child actors are marvelous and sweet too:

Okay so I pretty much loved all of the new eps. Second half of S1? Is it S2?? Maybe I put the loupe down and just enjoyed it for what it is....or the eps got tighter and better? Like Pac said... this is like Omar Sy playing Batman, or Bond....or, maybe more than anything, Ethan Hunt. Very entertaining and satisfyingly done down the stretch and the way the past inspires and informs the present. Sy is great and the supporting characters shine as well thru Ch6-10.
