Would this count as Scorsese's first miniseries! We also should be getting the SCTV doc next year too - I mean I hope so. And remember the Sharon Stone/Streep teased project? Leo_The_Last (where is he!) did a thread on it... Was that confirmed to be the Dylan doc? in which case was Streep cut or never involved / Stone was confused? Is it this? or is it still upcoming?

Oh honeys, I'm loving this 10/10.
I know the legendary Fran Lebowitz is divisive and some people can't stand her, but listening to her passionate opinions (she has opinions on everything) and acerbic wit (hilarious) are a great way to start 2021.
This is basically a follow on from Scorsese's 2010 documentary on Fran, Public Speaking and sticks to the same format but done for Netflixs. Fran fits in so well into Marty's NYC oeuvre.
Is anyone else watching this?

I enjoyed this......
At one point Fran says, “There are no people like me in the younger generation, bc they wouldn’t be allowed to be like me.” Maybe that isn't true, but she makes you think it might be. I think aging has benefitted her quick-witted grouchiness, seeming at times kinda like Larry David's less-funny sister, though she gets laughs too. I especially liked her taxi driver tales and her Charles Mingus story.... and the whole transit stuff of Ep3.
Scorsese keeps this moving despite the length with some great footage and a really awesome soundtrack (New York Dolls, Ray Charles, etc).

Big fan. In between her wisecracks--many of which make Scorsese laugh until he coughs--there's a reflection on what New York once was and how the Fran Lebowitzes of the world (high school education, little money) would never make it in New York today.

3 episodes down and loving it. As with Public Speaking I could listen to her talk all day, and unlike that this doesn't even have any asides. Great stuff.

This was fantastic. Roaming NYC like a terminator, she makes wisdom cool. And even though she claims to only truly know her generation, she sure cracks down on all the 21st century delusions. She knows narcissism when she sees it--like the hilarious dismantling of 'well-being' or young readers' need to 'see themselves' in books they read. Great chemistry between Marty & Lebowitz, palpable love for the city, and of course, books! An all-around lovable show. Makes you dread the moment their generation leaves the planet and we're stuck with us... but older
