Easily, easily 8½. It's one of the most deeply personal movies ever made that manages to blend an incredible intimacy with this downright epic scope, all via vivid cinematic expression. It's handily one of the best movies ever made. La Dolce Vita is an iconic, classic, defining movie of its era, but I don't think it comes close.

I always preferred 8½ too. The main character in La Dolce Vita wasn't interesting enough for the movie's meandering tone to fully engage me.
