This is fncking brilliant.............. and I had never heard of it though apparently it's a huge deal among animation types, comic types or alterna-teens (so basically everything pacinoyes is not ). An animated show consisting, in the 5 episodes on Netflix at least (there's more on other platforms) of 8-10 minute episodes - you can watch the whole season in like 40 minutes?) based around a radio show that never goes off the air. Part Charles Addams, part Watchmen (the "I'll look down and whisper "No" original comic) and part Batman comics and a whole lot of other stuff. This is marvelous in an animation and sound design way - you could listen and get it or watch without text/sound and get it ........the co-creator of this show Cristian Ponce has made a feature debut that I've been trying to see for months (no luck yet) and never knew he did this show.......wtf. The 4th episode in particular "The King of Christmas" is a mini-masterpiece of absurdist comic horror Side note: I included the trailer below for the Ponce movie HISTORIA DE LO OCULTO which is not related to the show but has the same vibe ............... Mattsby (who I think will love this TV series) but also cheesecake and Tommen_Saperstein who are horror enthusiasts. Though I don't think the movie is that horror actually and is more a political allegory..........don't know haven't seen it yet ......................but The Kirlian Frequency is a show that just made it jump even higher on my to see list.

I never would have been interested in a movie called History of the Occult, but that trailer interests me. As does your description of this show. I'll keep both in mind, if I see them around. I don't have a Netflix subscription, so fat chance on the show...

This was kinda awesome. When I watched The Norliss Tapes (1973) in October I really wished it went to series bc I love the idea of a spooky cassette tape tale per ep. Which is what we get here! I liked E2 a lot which has some of the cleverest visual ideas and interesting observant stuff (whether someone's feet are on the ground or eerily hovering above it) and some good quotes - "Longer nights are coming, and so is trouble." E4 is xmas apt and the funniest (the very long pause after the host tells the caller that they're only taking good news tonight ) ...and E5 which is mostly B&W might be the most like Twilight Zone and as if helmed by seminal Argentine filmmaker Leopoldo Torre Nilsson. Great music score across all eps. Ponce in an interview said the biggest inspiration for this whole concept was the 'Dead Air' half-ep of Night Visions (no wonder you like this, pacinoyes!).

Anybody have any thoughts on the trailer for the feature - aside from Martin?
I have been trying to see this thing since September and you can sort of tell that this old TV signal (or whatever it is) is taking the place of the radio station tapes in Kirlian - though this definitely has a Lovecraft vibe at the end I'm kind of intrigued by the political metaphor angle in Argentina.
Also: the blonde guy in the trailers character name is Adrian Mercado - Rosemary's Baby reference so this guy really is right up my alley and hope it delivers when I can eventually see it.....

I never heard of Cristian Ponce before this thread but he's clearly awesome... He not only wrote and directed Kirlian but edited and did the animation! and then I believe self-released on Youtube/Vimeo..... then a Netflix aggregator in Argentina saw it and brought it to their attention. It's a great lesson for creatives to just do the work any way you can and get it out there.
So.... I hope Netflix picks up History of the Occult too bc the trailer looks clever and horrifying and unique to Argentina on top of it all. I didn't catch the Rosemary's ref but I know Ep4 of Kirlian makes several direct refs to Stephen King works! I dig the respect he has for the genre while also being ingenuitive with form.
I think Ponce would like The Vast of Night from this year and vice versa.

Both of these looks really interesting. Dug up a trailer of Kirlian and loved the animation style. Looks spooky as hell. Reminded me of those animated I Am Legend shorts, especially this one, which scarred me:
I need more animated horror in my life!

The 3 "most recent" episodes of the show - in language - so you'll have to turn on subtitles.
Great eerie synth score ......I love this stuff......so this picks up where e5 on Netflix left off and I guess if it ever comes back to Netflix this will get a dubbed audio speaking update.
Episode 6 with links to 7 and 8 as well....

This is playing the Imagine film festival (Netherlands) in mid-April - so that would cover most of all the niche European festivals - not sure if those of us in the US can reserve tickets and see it but I think so - link below - playing virtually but a US streaming date should follow soon after in 2021. Lots of reviews on Letterboxd now - mostly very positive though some don't seem to get the humor which I can relate to ......... www.imaginefilmfestival.nl/film/historia-de-lo-oculto/

Should probably move this to a separate movie thread soon but just for the record..........it won the festival 2021 The Black Tulip award for Best Film went to the Argentinian film History of the Occult (Historia de la Oculto) by Cristian Ponce, in which a television crew tries to prove a link between witchcraft and their corrupt Government.screenanarchy.com/2021/04/imagine-2021-winners-awarded.html
