I'm late to this show but I've binge watched all the episodes for Season 1 on Netflix and have to say its one of my favorite tv shows running right now and I can't wait till Season 2. Kind of reminds me of The X-Files in a way with a team this time instead of a duo of a believer and skeptics with the theme this time being God/Demons/Religion instead of Extraterrestrial life. The main trio of Katja Herbers, Mike Colter, and Aasif Mandvi have a great rapport and chemistry with each other and those three get great supporting work from tv vets like Christine Lahti and Michael Emerson (always excellent at being a creepy manipulator). Across the board, the cast is doing great work. The writing is very strong and I like the chances they take in tackling serious subject matter within the context of the world they've created. Its also nice for the comedy to shine in this type of subject matter thanks mostly to Mandvi, and to give each of the trio arcs for their characters to explore. Favorite episode from Season 1 is probably the one with David in the hospital with the evil nurse, what a great hour of suspenseful television, although the Pudsy Christmas song episode is a doozy..lol. I see why critics responded well to this and look forward to what they come up with in Season 2. Hoping for continued success for this show and a long-run..great potential for this CBS Show.

Glad to see Mike Colter land a gig after Luke Cage.
I heard about this, but am quite wary of Network TV from channels like CBS, as a lot of their stuff is so procedural and feels stretched out to 22 or 24 episodes per season to meet the needs of advertisers.
But finding out Evil has a lean 13 episode run for it's first season and reading your review makes me want to check it out. It's length and how you describe it makes ut sound more like a streaming or cable show (which I usually prefer) than a typical CBS procedural.

I think if this show tried to do the 22-24 episodes season like some old school 90s The X-Files type stuff it would get diluted quickly and these days I'm turned off by those procedural type shows that NBC/CBS still like to do, but thankfully Evil is a nice 13 episode TV show at least for Season 1 so it contains good, strong writing. Season 1 got a 91 on RT and 76 on Metacritic so the critics dug it and seems a lot of people are discovering it now because of Netflix (like me) so I highly recommend the show, I think you'll like it. Ultimately though it gives you characters that you grow to care for and the trio team has great chemistry. I'll be interested to know what you think of it, and yeah I'm happy Colter got another gig after Luke Cage. The cast is great.

Saw it trending on Netflix and had no idea it was even a CBS show.

May check this out solely for Lahti, tbh. Also, a story - my little cousin was almost casted in this. NDAs and preferred craft service foods, the whole bit. I think the main actress has like a brood of daughters?? So CBS "casted" two groups of young actresses, each group rehearsed a lot together, and whichever group had better natural chemistry won out and, well, we lost.

I'm 5 episodes into this, and enjoying it very much so far. Thanks for the recommendation sirchuck23. I'll give my full thoughts when I'm done with the show.

Okay, finished all 13 episodes. Can't wait to watch Season 2. What a surprisingly great show. Not only because it doesn't feel like a typical CBS procedural that I expected, but because I haven't really heard that much hype over it (though reviews were very strong and I see why). It deserves a lot more attention than it's gotten, but perhaps that will come if further seasons keep up this level or get even stronger. In essence it's a disturbing blend of horror and psychological thriller that keeps you guessing just how much of what is going on in any given episode is truly supernatural or psychological (and in people's heads) in nature. Good writing and direction is at the core of this show's success, and showrunners and creators Robert King and Michelle King deserve a lot of credit for putting all these pieces together.
A terrific cast of actors, including a very likable central trio that are easy to root for, including a trainee priest played winningly by Mike Colter, a psychologist played by Katja Herbers and Aasif Mandvi as their jack-of-all-trades colleague (investigator, handyman, tech guy etc). It a huge cast full of recurring characters, including 4 solid young actresses who play Herber's daughters with a remarkably believeable chemistry, and Christine Lahti who plays their grandmother. Michael Emerson also stands out in an antagonist role across the season.
It's creepy, suspenseful, surprising and full of theological and moral quandaries that get you thinking. Hope more people start watching this, as it's quality content.
8.5/10

8.5/10 Cheers my friend! Glad you gave your time to watch it. A pleasantly good tv show indeed. In the golden era of tv with all the best shows being on cable, it kind of made me bias thinking there wasn't that type of quality on broadcast channels anymore (CBS, NBC, ABC). I mean you'll have your Lost and This is Us tv shows every now and then, but when I was hearing the publicity for it when it was premiering on CBS, I thought it would just be another procedural. But its been one the "diamond in the rough" tv shows for me in 2020 and I'm glad I took a chance on it. Like you, I can't wait for Season 2.

No worries As I said earlier, I appreciate you pointing me towards this show, as it's probably not a show I'd have gone out of my way to watch otherwise. But I really enjoyed it, and consider myself a fan now (as long as the 2nd season doesn't fall apart ). One of the good things about a forum like this is knowing there are people whose recommendations you can generally trust. When you went to bat for this show, I knew at the bare minimum it wouldn't be a waste of time.

When you went to bat for this show, I knew at the bare minimum it wouldn't be a waste of time. Cool. Well you did that for me with The Boys on Amazon Prime. I generally stay away from comic book TV series (really just concentrate on comic book films) unless its characters/comics I've heard of like Daredevil, Luke Cage, etc. But you were recapping every episode of Season 1 and praising it so much that made me check it out as well and now I'm a big fan of the show and like you mentioned its growing its fan base because it's keeping the same quality/momentum it had from Season 1. It's cool to discover good TV when its recommended.
