surprised to see mentions of Huppert. I for one thought she and Adjani were badly underused in Bronte Sisters (which is already kind of a misguided movie anyways that's spread too thin). Marie-France Pisier and Pascal Greggory had the most opportunities to shine IMO, although if lead actress were a bit tighter I wouldn't even be nominating Pisier.

I'm not wild about her, but in a year without a clear #1 Lead Actress, I default to Huppert. Although that's not one of my favorite performances from her. Any time a favorite performance from hers come up, it's always in a strong year. I might also go with Quinlan as she's the next most logical choice, but...... eh, something feels not quite about it. She should win for 1977 but unfortunately Shelley Duvall is just too strong. Kinski is sumptuous but not the *type* to be my winner. And Weaver serves the part quite nicely, but I think people get too wild about her performance in the Alien movies which is memorable but not virtuoso. That's basically the extent of my opinion.
